Amazon Settlement Emails Mean Books!

Standard

Once again, I’m veering from the typical book post to the general subject of reading, and this time, by reading, I mean a class action suit settlement you don’t have to do anything to collect. The proceeds from the antitrust lawsuit Amazon filed against the major publishers for ebook price-fixing are now sitting in your Amazon account.

Well, your share of them, anyway. How much that will be depends on the books you bought in the past, and whether you bought them from major publishers. My chunk isn’t much of a chunk, it’s a chunklet, but it will buy me at least one indie book or half of a traditionally published one.

Look out for the e-mail from Amazon, it will tell you exactly how much you have to spend. You get a year, according to the e-mail, but I suspect, readers that we are, no one’s money will sit there for long.

Interestingly, this is the first time I’ve ever seen an actual dime or benefit from a class action where I’ve been included in the class, and I’d say Amazon handled it pretty brilliantly. Not only because we actually get money to spend, but because we have to spend it at Amazon (unless you opted out months ago) and odds are, we’ll spend more than the settlement amount.
