Hello Spring

Today there is sunshine. I am going outside, even though it’s still a bit chilly, but it’s spring, and I’m going to take it in.

I love spring. It promises so much, there is so much ahead of spring. We get the first flowers, and they are vibrant, some of them scented so strongly they stay with you long after you’ve caught a hint of them on the breeze.

With spring, we have summer to come, and after that, fall, my other favorite time.

For someone who doesn’t like change, I really enjoy the transitional seasons. Interesting.

I can hear the wind, though, sun or not. There’s still a hint of brutality to spring, but it’s a brutality tempered by hope. By a promise of warmer days to come, of abundance.

It’s so short in Chicago, we go from coats to shorts in no time flat. So I will experience it while it’s here and get some photos for when it’s not.

    • I hear you get A LOT of rain. A LOT, which explains why every picture I’ve ever seen of Ireland is a gorgeous lush green!

Yes, we can go from negative degrees (F, not C, so really cold) to 100 (F, again, I think C would cook us!) in year. Or in a week.

  1. I used to love Spring time in Chicago. Shedding the layers and layers of clothes, and actually enjoying the breeze on my skin, not having to put my head down and barrel into the biting winter wind.

    • There was still a bit of wind yesterday, but yes, it’s totally like the weather finally calls a truce.

I think that’s one of the benefits of living a place with four distinct seasons, you really enjoy them when they change.

      • Absolutely – here in California we don’t really have a winter, it gets a bit cold, then we have 2 days of Spring and then we bake for months and months (from May to November) and no rain at all. That’s the part I miss the most is the Summer afternoon thunderstorms. There is nothing better.

      • So true! I love watching the lightning. But then again, you don’t have February. I mean you have it, but it doesn’t take through April to defrost! 🙂

  2. Is it still spring? We were melting yesterday. I was pulling weeds for a couple of hours before the heat got me. Today, I’m wearing my flannels again. And we are going on a picnic! Brrr. I hate summer but love the sunshine. Spring is trying to hold on and summer wants it way. 😦 Have a wonderful day. Enjoy the frigid sunshine.
