Earlier this week, I mentioned my upcoming trip, and I’m so excited about it, I can’t hold it in anymore. So here’s a fun little game. It’s what these three things have in common (and Jon, Lorinda and Kristin, if you guys are reading this post, no fair guessing, you already know…though I’m going to tell everyone in a second anyway, so I guess they won’t hear you if you call it out).
So this guy:
and this one:
and this author:
What could it be? WHAT COULD IT BE???
Are you ready for the answer?
Yes?
OK, here it comes!
If you keep scrolling you will find out that I am heading to…
The home of Diego the Tortoise, host of the most famous finches in history and setting for one of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut novels! With me? I’m going to the:
I KNOW!!! Believe me, I KNOW!! I’m still in shock that it’s happening, though it’s been set for a while. Can you imagine the photos?
You won’t have to. Because I will share them with you. I am not a religious person, but I imagine the feeling a religious person gets when journeying to her/his holy site is similar to the feeling of a scientific person having the opportunity to visit what could be considered the birthplace of the theory of evolution.
It’s far more adventure than I’m used to, but I think it’s just the kind of adventure I need. And I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

This is somewhere I really want to go as well. Just have to convince my husband who is not as adventurous as I am. He is six years older than me and starting to limit his options. Not going anywhere without him though as he has been part of my life for 47 years.

Congratulations on that amazing, wonderful long marriage/relationship! There are definitely ways to go that are less “adventurous,” (and for me, that much time in nature alone is adventurous!) and they are routes that are pretty well traveled at this point. Stay tuned, though, who knows, maybe my experience will be just the right nudge?

Hmmm, the answer is not visible for me, but am I right that you are going to the Galápagos Islands?

You are correct! You can’t see the book cover for Galapagos? I wonder what happened…are you just getting a square?
You are an excellent guesser! Was it Diego? He’s been everywhere in the news lately. I can only hope I’ll get a chance to see him (though they could probably say any of the tortoises were him, and how would I know?!)

Yes, just getting a square. When are you going? My hubby and I leave for Equador and the Galapagos on Oct 22nd. Can’t wait!

Ooh, are you going to Guayaquil as well? We won’t overlap, unfortunately, how crazy would that be! I’ll be back before you go, so if you want any dish, I’ll be thrilled to share! Are you doing land-based or cruise-based? And I just checked out your blog…wow am I jealous of your travel!

We have a 5 day cruise in the islands followed by two weeks for a circle in Ecuador and up into the Amazon. I’ve waited many years for this trip!

Sounds fantastic! Especially the Amazon portion. I hope you have the most wonderful time, and it exceeds anything you could have hoped for! There’s so much world out there.

Wow! You are a lucky person indeed! Not many get to go there as there are so many restrictions for the safety of the natural habitat. I do seriously envy you. I get the exuberance of this trip. I’d be over the moon too. Looking forward to lots of photos. My traveling days are a bit more limited now but nothing can stop me enjoying vicariously. 😉 Enjoy every second.

Thanks, I really I am, and I am looking forward to it immensely! And sometimes vicarious travel is the best travel, some of my best trips are vicarious!
This is probably it travel-wise for me for a while, so I’m going to try to take full advantage! Of course that means an insane number of pictures 😉
