Losing

Well, friends, I’m losing the A to Z Challenge. Even though it’s not that kind of challenge. But if it was, I’d be WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY in the rear, gasping and taking the last half-filled cup of Gatorade off the table, even though we’re only at mile 12.

Also I just realized how fitting a metaphor marathons are for this challenge. Twenty-six letters of the alphabet; 26.2 miles in a marathon…now I find myself doubting that knowledge. Yep, I was right, but in the Google era, never sure.

Hmm.

I got a cramp, which in the case of A to Z, was a brain-cramp, and I haven’t been able to shake the headache all week. Though I’ve managed twitter, digesting lovely, thoughtful posts greater than 250 characters and commenting intelligibly on them has been too much. While it’s not gone completely, hopefully today I can get back into the swing of visiting, and I really apologize to everyone who is so kind to come read my nonsense when I haven’t been coming around.

I have stories to catch up on, vicarious travel to embark, characters to meet and lots of waving hi to do. So I’m probably going to need some coffee while I’m at it.

What?

It’s good for the headache.

  1. I understand what you’re saying here. When I did the A To Z Challenge I thought it was like a part-time job. So many letters to write about, so many people to visit, so many comments to respond to. It seemed like the challenge might be too much, but in the end it did end and it was fun. So hang in there, Z is coming.

    • Thanks so much! I’m doing OK on the posts and the comments here, but visiting is down…I’m hoping to get back to speed today and tomorrow. When my head is cloudy it’s tough to read a longer post and make sense of it…

But yes, you’re right, and I usually love this thing, I meet the best people 🙂

Are you still suffering from that infernal headache? You poor soul, I’d have taken to my bed & pulled a duvet over my head in those circs. Yet you’ve been soldiering on and turning out blog posts. Seriously, well done! If I could send those healing vibes thingys … I’d be doing it right now. You know – waggle, waggle, through the ether of the virtual world. Take care & get well soon.

    • Thanks so much!

I’ve done that too 😉 Sometimes sleep is the only thing that helps. Coffee as well, but I have to limit it, which is why I’ve gotten the posts done, it’s all caffeine.

I’m hoping it retreats for good! They’re definitely not fun.

  3. I had a day full of errands on Tuesday, which left me too drained to do anything that night. Wednesday morning was full-bore cleaning with overnight company on the way that afternoon. They just left…so I’m way behind in reading and slightly behind in commenting. It’ supposed to rain all weekend, so I will catch-up then and by Monday will be working on my S-Z flash fiction stories. So you’re not alone…LOL!

    • That makes me feel so much better! Though overnight company cleaning is NO JOKE.

I don’t know what it is about this year, but it feels like this challenge is a little more of a, well challenge. Here’s to us clinging-on-ers!

    • You are ONE MILLION PERCENT right! And thanks, you’re right, I need to work on being OK with not being perfect.

I think I went into it this year with the “done it before” overconfidence, but every challenge is a new challenge.

  4. Well! Despite all that you managed to stagger over to my blog and leave a comment – it seems to me that you’re still in the race and just doing the uphill bit. It’s around this time in the Challenge that I am asking myself “Why? Why? Why?” all the reading and commenting and keeping up with life in general on top of it is pretty exhausting – but fun too! I’m sure you’ll get your second wind any moment now and tomorrow is our day off! 🙂

    • Thanks! But unless you’re already onto Sunday tomorrow…NOT SO FAST!

Though wait, let me check the schedule and make sure.

Yep, we have M Saturday! No rest until Sunday.

Thanks for the pep talk, it really does help!! 🙂

  5. Ha! I guess we are all in the same boat at this point: feeling behind. For me, it’s not a brain cramp, more like a heart-cramp. I’m desperately trying to fend off depression, and in the process, while writing, commenting, studying Mandarin, and planning a move, I think I’m fending off my friends. I really don’t want to leave the house. It would be much better to stay in and focus on blogging!

    • I definitely can understand it, and I’m sure facing a move (even though you sounded excited about it earlier in the challenge) is a HUGE deal. You have a LOT going on and this doesn’t exactly help.

Just make sure you take care of yourself, whatever form that has to take.

  6. I’m feeling guilty. I’m not visiting and commenting on all the posts I’m following. I am getting my own posts up as most have been written (still stuck on U). It is a bit difficult as we are doing a caravan trip (again) and I’m using the iPad which is not as easy to use as my iMac at home. At least there is Sunday to catch up on other people’s posts.

  7. Hello,
This is the 5th year I have done the A-Z. It’s not easy! I think more and more people publish their post far ahead of time. I have written a few ahead of time, and that’s still not easy. A few years ago, during the month, I was swamped with life, writing, and Work was WAY too out of control. I had to stop writing the A-Z. In some ways it was disappointing, but it was such a relief to stop. The people who follow or read your blog will continue to read regardless of what day or letter it is! Keep writing, and write when you can……but mostly, enjoy yourself.
