So here we are, with Donna B. McNicol’s (D.B. McNicol’s? Which do you prefer?) #JUkNowuCanDoIt (though I don’t know if I can punctuate it properly, it’s a challenge within a challenge for me) which is a no-pressure support group for our work during the lovely month of June. Which just so happens (not that we planned it or anything, winky face winky face) to coincide with #AccountaClub.
How convenient is that?
If you don’t know the drill, tell us how your work is going, or even how your week is going if it’s been that kind of week. And we love good news and progress too! Drop a comment or write a blog post, it’s entirely up to you.
And on to my own reporting.
I’ve definitely been editing. There’s no question I’ve been editing. But it slow-going. I haven’t worked on the first draft, as my mind is on fixing the completed manuscript, so maybe that’s just what I need to be doing.
I wrote an extra political piece this week when the mood struck, so I count that as a bonus. I’m still going to stick to my Thursday opinion piece on Medium, so far it’s working.
I’m not flying, but I’m not standing still either. How about you?

Late to the party…I did put up a post and it has my update. I’ve been sidelined a bit today with 1) waking up with a headache, 2) the news of Anthony Bourdain’s suicide (it prompted my latest flash fiction) and 3) fighting “something”, picked up meds at Wally World after shopping and came home to take a nap. Phew…what a day
https://dbmcnicol.blogspot.com/2018/06/juknowucandoit-june-8-2018.html is my update and https://dbmcnicol.blogspot.com/2018/06/fridayfictioneers-i-wont.html is my flash fiction inspired by the events today.
Sad day…

Very. So sorry about the headache, I can definitely commiserate.
It’s been a very long, very sad week.
And I’m sorry you’re not feeling well on top of it all! But glad you could channel it creatively, at least.

I made it! It’s almost Saturday night for me, and we are meeting friends for dinner and then watching another installment of the International Fireworks competition from our roof. Big night!
But, I have maintained a pace of writing every day. Most of that weeklong scene I outlined last week is still in my notebook. It’s becoming cumbersome, so I took a break yesterday and wrote the very beginning. I think this week I will either re-write some of the hard scene, or just get it into my computer. I’m curious about my word count. I’m writing every day, but how much? I don’t know.
I fact, maybe I’ll start on that now. I have an hour or so before we leave for dinner…

I always keep a spreadsheet in Excel to keep track of word count. You can let it do the work for you! But awesome work on keeping it up with everything you’re doing.
Also International Fireworks Competition?! How could you NOT watch that? That sounds incredible!
I’m impressed with your social life there having only been there such a short time…dinner AND helping people move.
Hope you had a lovely time. Awesome work on the work!!

Vietnam is a very friendly nation. Not just the locals, but in Beijing, even other expats would barely catch your eye or pass the time of day.

That must be such a nice change then! I’m sure Bejing was an exciting place to live, but it sounds like Vietnam is already homier.

Not flying, but kind of happy about that. Not standing still, but wondering if I’d be better off doing so. Kind of feeling like I’m marking time right now.

I know that feeling. But you’ve definitely spent less time blogging…have you enjoyed that? Do you feel like you’re getting some of your time back?

Yes, I do feel like I’m getting more balance in my life since I decided to be more intentional with my blogging time. On the flip side, I need to plan more things to do with my time! Haven’t quite got my schedule planned in a way that fills it, but not too much!

Or just enjoy some quiet. That’s good too.

Yes it is and I forget that. Thanks for reminding me.

Even though it doesn’t sound like much, I did manage to do some writing and got a post up this week. Planning on more for the coming week, but at least this was a start. We all gotta start somewhere. 🙂

Hey, that’s awesome! No talking yourself down here, everything counts. Sometimes it’s a struggle and get past that alone is impressive. Nice work!

It probably tells you everything that you need to know that I’m only just commenting on the Friday post. Lots of stuff happening at the moment, some with fall out. So it goes. Still working on the 5k that was my #MAYkingItWork – really not sure what is going on with that. Getting the ideas out of my head and onto paper is proving more difficult than I would have thought.
On the plus side, I was pleased enough with a 1k written for the Fiction Can be Fun prompt that I’ve submitted it to the Arcanist on a bit of a punt.
Onwards and upwards…

Awesome! I’ll read it in a bit, I’m looking forward to it! Friday came and I thought, OOPS, I entirely forgot!
I’m sorry the real world is being uncooperative at the moment. Sometimes when it intrudes, it really intrudes.
Best of luck with the story!

Thanks! I haven’t posted mine yet, as that’s one of the conditions of submission – hasn’t been published anywhere before. I actually submitted this Sunday’s story to them first, and they said ‘no thanks, but do send us some more’.
If you find yourself inspired by the prompt, there is always #TortoiseFlashFiction 😀
