Well, it’s that time again! It’s Friday, so it’s #AccountaClub and #JUkNOWuCanDoIt! #AccountaClub is a weekly feature here, and #JUkNOWuCanDoIt! is the fun support group over at DB McNicol’s blog!
So let’s catch up and talk about our weeks. Or week, since we all lived the same one. Probably.
Whatever.
My ongoing goals are to finish a first draft and edit a finished manuscript. I’ve also added a political column once a week over at Medium, it’s an outlet I’ve really needed. And as circumstances demand, I’ve given myself the freedom to write there more often.
The finishing of the first draft is nowhere, as I’ve realized when editing it’s awfully tough to switch gears. But we’ll see if I can get more balance next week.
Political column, check, and the editing is going. Slowly, but it’s happening. I hope I can make filet out of this mincemeat eventually, we’ll have to see.
How’s it going for you?

Congratulations to everyone for getting through the week!
Good news! This week was better than last. I set up an excel spreadsheet to track blog posts and word counts that runs through the end of the year. Starting Monday… 5 days and 5 posts. Total words 600+ through yesterday. More to be added today.
For next week the plan is to keep up the momentum and dust off the draft. I think it stands at 45k words and I know where it is going. I am thinking about working up an outline to make sure I hit all my points and start imposing some structure to the story.
Have a great weekend.

Excel is THE BEST. And what a great idea to do a running total of blog post words!
Imagine how it will grow.
Also great on dusting off the manuscript! My hitch was forgetting what had happened. Ergh. Can’t wait to see how next week goes!

Good for you on your forward progress! I know it’s been a struggle lately.
Yesterday was the first day I didn’t write anything at all, because we decided to be tourists for the day. It was fun, but I’ll be glad to do today all that writing that I had planned for yesterday. I think I’ve written out all the scenes that I had written into the original one-act play. Today (yesterday) the goal is to enter into Word all the bits that only exist in my notebook, and get a word count. I’m guessing around 15,000. 12-15,000.
Yesterday, while being tourists and drinking giant drinks, I confessed to my husband an inspiration I had for a completely different book. It would be a genre I am not entirely comfortable with, but he loves. So while I’m working up my current project, he is going to help provide me with books and movies for research into the genre. In some ways, it’s really good that I don’t have a real job right now!
So I guess I’ll be joining you in trying to find the balance of switching gears from one mode to another. Cheers to that!

That all sounds like so much fun (especially the tourism part. Especially, especially the big drinks!)
That’s awesome, though, you’ve done so much! And a break is always good.
Let me know how gear-switching goes! If you find the magic balance, make sure to send me some 🙂
