Oh, is today supposed to be a holiday? I hadn’t noticed. If you’ve watched “The Good Place,” (which you should if you haven’t, it’s delightful) then, spoiler coming up, you know know that Mindy St.Claire is in the medium place, where everything is just so-so.
It’s not great, it’s not terrible, it’s just brilliantly mediocre.
And that’s my feeling about today. It’s not terrible only because so many of us are fighting for what this country really means; it’s not great because as I write this, seven Republicans members of Congress–ONLY Republicans, by the way, no Democrats invited–are meeting with Putin.
Yes, that Putin. On Independence Day. I just can’t get over it.
So I may take advantage of some sales today, but there will be no fireworks for me, no parades, no false cheer for something I cannot support in good conscience at this moment.
But I haven’t given up hope.
As I said, the medium place.

A medium 4th of July to all of my fellow Americans, may next year be the real thing. And happy Wednesday to everyone else!

Here’s mine:
My children: The peace talks ended badly. The opposition would not hear our words and damned us for not “following orders.” This breaking dawn signals a new day of resistance. Remember me fondly. I only have one life to give for what was my country. #secondcivilwarletters
