#FridayThoughts: Varied

Standard

Another long night of weird dreams. I’ve got to get better at controlling them, because they tend not to be that relaxing.

I ordered dehydrating racks for my Ninja Foodi, which you may or may not know I’m completely obsessed with. Or with which I am completely obsessed, for the grammatically observant among us.

I don’t know why the idea of dehydrating fruit is so exciting to me. I probably don’t have enough of a life. I should get out more.

But I can bring freshly dehydrated fruit, so I’d call that a win.

Apparently I’m also very distractible today. I’ve gone down two separate rabbit holes, and you probably didn’t even miss me.

I was completely absorbed by the report of the guy on hover shoes who stole a bunch of stuff without paying. He’s clearly here to fix the present.

Clearly.

Here’s the story, if you’re interested.

Anyway, thoughts of time travelers are just the thing to take through a Friday. Have a great one, and a great weekend.

#WednesdayWisdom: On exercise

Standard

So you may have made a fitness goal to usher in this impossible-sounding year, 2020. Or you’ve been dabbling in fitness for a while. Or you’re a regular exerciser.

No matter where you are with fitness, the days–or the weeks, because sometimes it’s weeks–will come when you just don’t wanna. At all.

Maybe that exercise glow isn’t as strong. Maybe you’re achy. Or maybe your couch/bed is calling.

Only you know whether it’s a can’t or don’t wanna situation.

But.

Pushing through those don’t wannas, even if you whine the whole time you’re doing it, gives you a special sense of accomplishment. Pushing through those don’t wannas, knowing there are times they will beckon far more loudly than the “you can do its” makes you feel like you’ve climbed a mountain, even if your workout is climbing mountains.

Then it’s like climbing two mountains.

Sometimes I think of exercise as medicine it takes 30 minutes to ingest. And I always, always, always feel better afterward.

Even if I don’t wanna.

Especially if I don’t wanna.

And this is after a week of don’t wanna. And here’s the thing about that: eventually you turn the corner and wanna. And you’ve stuck with it.

And that’s pretty cool.

Anyway, have a great Wednesday. Maybe get in a workout, if you’re able.

#TuesdayThoughts: Tuesday your Tuesday

Standard

Still in Grayville over here. Looks warmer, though; most of the snow is gone, patches of a color more green than it should be in January now bigger than the white ones.

I’m drinking my coffee but not drinking it enough, I think, I’m still woolly-headed and my alarm sliced through the very middle of a dream.

A busy dream.

Busy with what, I don’t know. I also don’t know why I can’t just have dreams that involve sitting quietly somewhere pleasant. That seems relaxing.

Editing went not too terribly yesterday, though it did highlight how many problems I have earlier in the manuscript. But that’s what getting your hands dirty, getting up to your elbows in the muck of the mess of the manuscript, is all about.

Or so I tell myself. For me, it’s the hardest part.

Anyway, I’m going to Tuesday my own Tuesday, and you have a terrific one yourself.

#MondayThoughts: Wintering

Standard

Usually, when you hear the word “wintering” you think of people flitting off to somewhere warm, usually Florida, to wait out the frigid months somewhere cold, like Chicago.

Well, I’m not doing that.

No, I’m wintering in winter. It was slow this year but it did arrive, snowy, windy baggage in hand, and here I am, looking out at a landscape that is a stark arrangement of whites to grays to blacks. Not a speck of color to be seen.

This weekend I cozied it up as best I could, as it was chilly inside and out. I baked and crocheted and I don’t know who this person is but she can keep me warm and full of sugary goodness so I’d count that as a win.

And now that we’re firmly into January, my mind turns to those writing projects so very neglected. Editing, my friends.

So much editing.

That will be my Monday, and I hope your Monday is as glorious as any Monday has a right to be.

#FridayThoughts: Not very thinky

Standard

It’s foggy outside and foggy in here, but only the metaphorical kind. Foggy inside would probably only be damp, because fog never looks like fog up close.

Hmm, that sounds deep.

Feel free to find some profundity in it. Meanwhile it just took me like three minutes to come up with the word profundity, so that pretty much proves it on the fog.

It’s been a long week, maybe because it’s right after a holiday week, maybe because the world is on fire, and in some places, quite literally. Maybe it’s something I can’t quite put my finger on.

Maybe.

But it is Friday, with a weekend peeking through the door, looking impatiently at its watch. So may your Friday be smooth and your weekend even better.

#WednesdayWisdom: Memory

Standard

I forgot to put on a bracelet I meant to wear today. I reminded myself to put it on, I remember that clearly, and yet somehow, here I sit, no bracelet.

Memory is weird.

Like dreams. Sometimes you remember the whole thing, clear as a movie, almost complete with credits, and others, just that vague feeling you’ve been elsewhere.

And it can fail us. In the midst of writing this post, a friend told me his mom was recently diagnosed with alzheimers. Something so intangible can feel so permanent.

Sometimes we live in our memories. I’m not sure how good that is.

And all this over a forgotten bracelet. Have a great Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Eyes front.

Standard

It’s very gray out today, and not in the going to snow kind of way. Just flat and colorless.

Might be fitting.

It’s been a long week and it’s only Tuesday. Funny how some weeks are like that, each day grinding along like some of the teeth are missing.

Or there are too many teeth. Neither is good.

I feel like I slept a lot but I had strange dreams so I’m not very rested, but the creative part of my brain is buzzing anyway. Probably accounts for the weird dreams too.

Oh well. This year I’d like to keep focused on the idea that forward motion is forward motion, no matter how small. In other words, eyes front, people.

Eyes front.

Have a great Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Stuff

Standard

So my 2020 optimism was, indeed, quickly thwarted by the universe. In addition to the specter of war hovering over us, I had some family stuff over the weekend I don’t really want to get into.

Everyone will be OK, but so much for optimism.

It’s a sunny, sunny day, not sure of the temperature, and I have crocheted my first two hats.

Two.

And I actually like them both. Exciting.

Today is a day of tasks I’m not looking forward to, but that seems like the very fiber of Mondays. Just a hint of what’s to come: I’ve got to clean out the fridge.

Fun, right?

Anyway, I’m going to get going because that’s the only way to get done.

Pithy.

I should save it.

Have a great Monday.
