#WednesdayWisdom: Empathy matters

Standard

Short one today, because the message is short: empathy matters. You may never experience what others experience, but listen. Care about it.

We’re all people thrown together on this big rock in space, and somehow we let our differences matter more than the reality that we’re all the same, underneath, we’re all just people and we all deserve respect. We all deserve equality.

We all deserve not to be killed arbitrarily by police.

This is NOT “all lives matter.” That is a phrase meant to deflect, to change the subject, to erase. This is a reminder that someone who looks different than you, who lives in another part of the country, who may have a different religion or no religion at all is still a person and still deserves life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Have a contemplative Wednesday.
