#TuesdayThoughts: Brace for impact

Standard

There are conflicts erupting all over the world right now, and we all know who is behind them. He’s been itching for a world war, and it looks like he might get one.

Prepare yourself.

This downward spiral has so much further it can go, and no doubt that is the goal of it all.

Nope, not light and writerly. Not today.

I wish there was more hope right now, but that is the thing about evil, it is relentless, it is unfeeling. It is difficult for us to stop.

I’m not sure how we stop it.

Remain vigilant, and remember that all we see is not all that’s happening. Also remember, trump and his regime are not on our side; they have not been with this pandemic, they will not be in the future.

Not a cheerful post, I grant you. Have a productive, thoughtful Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: True spirit of Monday

Standard

It’s brightly sunny today, uninterrupted blue in the sky, cool, though, for June. The baby birds who were nothing more than specks in the sky are growing larger, playing their way through the air, and the Supreme Court released a landmark decision protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ employees.

People cry out for justice, and for once, it seems, justice may be listening.

We’ll see.

I’m feeling chilly, the hazard of high temps about a week ago, but not unpleasantly so, and the sound of traffic has resumed somewhat, even though we’re far from the finish line.

I have a list today, full of tasks I’m not very excited about doing, but they need doing, nonetheless. That is, after all, the true spirit of Monday.

So I’m going to get to crossing things off, at least in my head, and you have a good Monday, and remember that we can affect others’ lives, for the good and the bad.

#FridayThoughts: Well, it’s Friday.

Standard

Somehow we got to the end of the week in this surreal landscape that keeps shifting but not getting more solid. We are months away from solid.

Hopefully we will get solid.

I’ve settled into the routine of making pizza from scratch on Friday, or scratchish, I make the crust but use bottled sauce. It’s delicious and it’s so much faster than I expected.

The recipe I use makes two pizzas, so in the morning I make cinnamon rolls. I could, of course, freeze the dough and have it ready for the next week, or make something else.

But I like cinnamon rolls.

So that is me for the week, tired, saddened, but resolute. I hope you have a good Friday and a weekend filled with possibilities. Whatever they are, wear a mask.

#ThursdayThoughts Ten Word Photo Prompt: Restarting

Standard
Photo by Wellington Cunha on Pexels.com

It’s Thursday! That means it’s time for a ten word story. Using the photo above as a prompt, write a story.

Of exactly ten words.

Sounds easy, right?

Maybe not.

Anyway, ready? Here’s mine.

Plucking the moon from the sky, she broke the spell.

#WednesdayWisdom: Let’s try listening

Standard

After three years of being told we have to try to understand people with abhorrent views, while excuses abound for those abhorrent views, let’s try listening in a different direction.

Hard as it may be, let’s put ourselves aside and hear things that feel uncomfortable. Let’s see the new and the old, especially the old, through different eyes. Let defensiveness go, let the discomfort settle in, and let’s challenge ourselves a little.

There’s never been a better time for it.

We are all part of this human puzzle, and it’s time we let some of the other pieces do the talking. Yes puzzle pieces talk, it’s a perfectly fine metaphor.

Clearly you haven’t done enough puzzles.

So that is it for this Wednesday. Have a good one, and try to share it.

#TuesdayThoughts: Clouds on the way?

Standard

It’s pretty sunny now, but we’re supposed to get rain and I believe it, my head believes it. Still quiet out, in sharp contrast to the changes working their way into the world.

I’m back on half-caff today, but not sure if it will stick, and I’m willing words into my head, because today they’re in short supply. Unusual, I know.

Here we are, well into June, the year already halfway through and it barely feels like it’s begun. And yet…

So here we are, and I wonder if we’ll even make it through to November at this rate, when the “bad people” are the ones who oppose fascism. Which is singularly the viewpoint of fascists.

On that note, I’m going to call it a blog. Have a Tuesday in which you fight for the rights of others, because that is the best we can do.

#MondayThoughts: A different world

Standard

And not the sitcom. No, this different world is demanding a change in our very institutions. It’s more than time, it’s been more than time many many lost lives ago.

So let’s make sure it gets done.

I’m not energized today, not exactly, but I am just the slightest bit hopeful. We’re also opening on a wider scale now in Chicago, we’ll see how that goes, that specter still hovering just beyond in the background.

It has me concerned about normal activities and wondering whether I should visit my parents, it’s so hard to know. The world is acting like the pandemic is gone, but it’s not gone.

Not yet.

Anyway, I’ve got a lot of Monday to Monday. May yours be filled with new horizons.

#FridayThoughts: Don’t be the wall

Standard

Maybe conversation about what is happening in the world is not what you want to hear from me. Maybe you want something normal, something plain.

But not acknowledging reality is enabling it all to continue. Trying to end this upheaval is a desire to make it all just go away without change.

That is unacceptable.

Here, now, in this moment, defines who we are. We are the ones tearing the wall down, brick by brick, or we are the wall.

Don’t be the wall.

Have a productive Friday advocating for the humanity of all, and carry it through until Monday.

#ThursdayThoughts Ten Word Photo Prompt: Let’s Go

Standard
Photo by Tim Mossholder on Pexels.com

It’s THURSDAY! That means ten word photo prompt time, even with the world on fire.

Using the image above, write a ten word story. Exactly ten words.

Ready? Here’s mine:

Change waits on the other side. Courage, now, to pull.

#WednesdayWisdom: Empathy matters

Standard

Short one today, because the message is short: empathy matters. You may never experience what others experience, but listen. Care about it.

We’re all people thrown together on this big rock in space, and somehow we let our differences matter more than the reality that we’re all the same, underneath, we’re all just people and we all deserve respect. We all deserve equality.

We all deserve not to be killed arbitrarily by police.

This is NOT “all lives matter.” That is a phrase meant to deflect, to change the subject, to erase. This is a reminder that someone who looks different than you, who lives in another part of the country, who may have a different religion or no religion at all is still a person and still deserves life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Have a contemplative Wednesday.
