#FridayThoughts: Oh well

Standard

In another universe, I’m excitedly getting ready to board a plane for Amsterdam. My posts are ready for the next three weeks, and I’m all packed, the Lyft to the airport booked.

Lucky her.

In this universe, every part of that trip was cancelled, including being allowed into the Netherlands.

I swear today is the last day I’ll complain about it, with all that’s going on, it’s not a real problem, but what I can’t get over is how trump managed to destroy this country and the whole world in just under four years. I always thought everything was more solid than that.

I knew it would be bad but wow.

Granted he had help, and by help, I meant directions, and yet still, here we are in a place where my favorite daydream–travel–has become terrifying rather than invigorating.

The very culture of everything has changed.

Outside it looks lovely, blue sky and a few clouds, some puffy, some streaky. I will try to remind myself of all the annoying things I won’t have to deal with by staying home, and take the weekend to just relax.

I hope you can do the same. Have a great Friday.

#WednesdayWisdom: Rage is good.

Standard

Forget platitudes about “forgiveness” and other such nonsense. That is intended to make you pliable, to ease the difficulty of your own abuse.

We are in a dystopian nightmare, it gets worse daily and now people are being whisked off the street by a plainclothes gestapo. There is a pandemic that never should have been–it could have been ENTIRELY PREVENTED–that seems it will never end with people within government themselves happily spreading it.

Do not accept any of this quietly. Do not subdue your rage, do not become compliant to our own subjugation by a fascist regime. We can make it harder for them, and our rage is the way to push us through it, push us through the despair.

I don’t know what will happen, things are darker than you imagine, and we are further gone than you probably thought. But be angry about it, there is nothing wrong with righteous anger.

Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Have a methodically-rage filled Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: SO LATE

Standard

Today I watched the entire Barr hearing, and by entire, I mean I muted the Republicans because honestly listening to them is a waste of time and you can never get those minutes back.

And I had a meeting, which makes me extra late for the blog. Sorry. I hope you weren’t waiting for me.

Today it has been sunny and gray and sunny and gray and I watched some of our Representatives with awe and I watch some with horror and revulsion. It makes you wonder at how we are where we are, and yet here we are.

And those are the extent of my thoughts, my brain a pile of hearing-made mush, watching an attorney general unrepentantly shred the Constitution is pretty much my limit for any given day.

I hope you enjoy what is left of this Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: So much for that.

Standard

It’s a gray day, but in an impressionist painting kind of way, everything softened in the muting of the sun. The clouds are a study of lights and darks, and maybe, maybe the heat has broken a bit.

This isn’t, by far, the biggest issue to come from this pandemic, or a real issue, or even a problem, but I was set to take an amazing trip this summer, I would have been leaving Friday, and now that is gone. Not gone for now, but gone forever because that kind of trip will never look the same again.

To say it now sounds so strange, it was a cruise, but booked before a cruise became a thing conjuring up confined spaces with endless germs converging. I suppose that was always a risk, but now anything we might not have considered about it is all there in stark relief.

I’ve been on one cruise before, to Alaska, and I meticulously used sanitzer wherever available, determined not to get an infamous stomach bug. But that alone seems futile now.

Beyond that, we aren’t allowed in any of the countries I would have seen, and all the images I had in my head of this incredible experience have converted to people in hospital beds, people being brutalized by nameless military simply for protesting, endless gloom in an endless loop.

That usurper in the White House has stolen so much from us, all as he scooped armfuls of cash straight out of the economy to line his own mattress. People are losing their livelihoods and their homes and their lives.

I know my trip doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things, within the larger picture. But he managed to take that too, and with that, my bright spot, the thing that kept me looking forward.

So that is me for today, sad about something that almost was and can never be. I hope you have a Monday filled with whatever it is you need today.

#FridayThoughts: Not nearly caffeinated enough

Standard

It’s Friday yet again. I’ve had a mediocre week, learning that the federal government wants to “invade” your city can do that. We are in a nightmare within a nightmare within a nightmare.

So. You know. Fun.

Writing this week has proven difficult, both in subject matter and brain power, I’m not sure if I’m cooking a migraine or it’s something else, but I’ve been feeling off. I need to focus today and get it done, it’s lingering.

Meanwhile it’s sunny with a bit of haze, and quiet, and no matter how much coffee I drink, it doesn’t seem to be enough coffee. Alas.

What I’m saying is I think I’m having more coffee.

Anyway, I’m heading back to writing, but I hope you have as nice a Friday and weekend as you can, given the way things are going.

#WednesdayWisdom: Tenacity

Standard

We are so often told to let things go. Now is not the time. Make a big deal. Be like a tiny dog with a big chew toy.

Our outrage is earned, and it is correct. Call out the hatred even if no one is listening, call out the hatred even if no one is paying attention. Call it out even if it’s to an empty room.

The bigots don’t like it. They try to make it as uncomfortable as possible to do. Do it anyway.

Normalizing hatred solves nothing.

Be tenacious and have a productive Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: I know I left them around here somewhere

Standard

Well the title of this post is misleading, because I don’t have many thoughts today. I’m all thoughted out.

Maybe not all. It’s true, I didn’t completely believe it either.

Largely. Largely thoughted out.

It was sunny this morning and somehow now it’s cloudy, but the clouds are like a flat hat in the middle of the sky, just enough to tamp down the sunshine.

Typical.

I am contemplating some home improvement projects, ones I think I can manage, mostly painting, since it seems we are destined to be at home for the long haul. Ah this timeline.

Meanwhile I’ve finished my coffee and that feels vastly unfair. Not that I couldn’t make more.

I just shouldn’t make more.

Anyway, that’s it for me on this Tuesday. Have a good one yourself.

#MondayThoughts: All over

Standard

Not really sure where I am this morning, I woke up very grumpy, had a great workout, but then the news took the air out again. Sometimes things are inevitable, and now, I wonder if we are beyond the point of no return, if things will only get worse.

Much worse.

Not terribly cheerful, I know.

The negativity around us doesn’t help, with people screaming disaster at the minor as well as the major, and with the upsetting bits and pieces always sorting through. Maybe what I want is a pocket of denial, a way to make what is clearly happening not be happening.

Anyone have an app for that?

Meanwhile all we can do is put one foot in front of the other, and hope that they have somewhere to land. I really wanted to be more upbeat this morning, I really felt that way after my workout, but like everything right now, that didn’t last.

Have a good Monday, and in everything you do, remember the great Rep. John Lewis. What we need now is good trouble.
