I’m not going to play the “they’re trying to steal the election” game. It’s too late. They lost. President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris won. There’s a whole lot of whining and stomping but nothing substantial that would change anything.
While they’re trying to compare themselves to us in 2016, the reality is that Republicans, and the trump campaign in particular, did collude with a hostile foreign power to usurp the election. A lot of people went to prison over it.
A lot of people have not yet gone to prison over it, but there’s still time.
Here what we’re seeing is the idea that their loss is, inherently, not fair. That victory belongs to them, whether or not they won it. Maybe that’s a warping because of the oddness of the Electoral College; maybe it’s just their endless entitlement.
But they lost. And given what they’ve done in the past to “win,” it’s very strange it’s a thread they want to pull.
People want to hold this whole thing up as evidence of the “weakness” of democracy. I say it underscores its strength. The people have spoken.
Have a great Tuesday.
