#FridayThoughts: On starting my own cult.

Standard

I’m thinking a lot about the relationship between religion and money lately, even before starting the documentary series The Way Down on HBOMax. I don’t understand how people can claim to embrace a religion which, as one of its core values, shuns greed and materialism, and turn around and worship these “leaders” who are amassing a fortune.

L. Ron Hubbard once supposedly said “You don’t get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.” I can confirm the first part. I’m vaguely considering the second.

That’s where my mind is today, I guess, deeply mired in the hypocrisy people tell themselves is morality.

At least it’s something else to think about.

Meanwhile, we’ve hit October, if you can believe it, in this year that seems like it barely started. October.

Obviously for me, the last six-plus weeks have been a blur, but I didn’t expect the planet to cooperate. I do think we’re easing into Fall though. Really easing. High of 80 today.

That’s it for me this week, I hope you have a lovely Friday and a marvelous weekend.
