#FridayThoughts: American dark ages.

Standard

It’s sunnyish now but I’m pretty sure it’s going to rain. It feels like it’s going to rain.

The weather report predicts rain.

After watching the full January 6 Committee hearing yesterday, I had trouble sleeping. The videos brought the feelings flooding back; the uncertainty, the fear. The not knowing if we would see members of Congress executed live on television, like a moment out of the mind of Orwell or Bradbury or Atwood.

And still it was worse than we ever knew. Trump saying that maybe Pence deserved to be executed. Republicans asking for pardons. Evidence of what we suspected all along: trump knew he lost, but he was determined to stay in power anyway.

It feels like an American Dark Age, and we’re not fully clear of it yet.

Yet.

It was just the first of several hearings. There is so much more still to come.

How’s that for scary?

As bad as it was when it happened, it’s even worse.

And while we know that trump never dispatched the National Guard to help the members of Congress, the stark recounting of it is truly terrifying.

We continue to trudge through the aftermath of trump and Republicans. Wish us, wish each other, strength on the journey.

That’s it for me this week. Have a great Friday and a great weekend.
