#FridayThoughts: Between Monday and Friday.

Standard

It’s Friday, so here is the link to my TV Watch, “Booted for ‘Reboot,'” if you’re interested. It wasn’t the show I said I’d be writing about on Monday.

Isn’t that the thing about weeks?

Between Monday and Friday, your whole perspective can change, your plans can change, your intentions can change. I was set to write about a different show entirely, and then I watched something else.

And it inspired me.

With creative pursuits, you’ve got to grab your inspiration when it comes. It’s a fickle, fleeting thing.

It’s OK to be flexible. It’s OK to change your point of view. It’s not good to be rigid in all things. That’s how you break.

Besides, with all that’s been going on with my mom, the ups and downs and ups and downs, levity was the better focus.

And that’s OK too. You’ve got to take care of yourself. It’s OK to point your energy at you.

With that I will bid you a wonderful Friday and an amazing weekend.

#ThursdayThoughts ten word photo prompt: Wishes

Standard

It’s THURSDAY which means it’s time for a ten word story! I guess! I mean why not we’re all here.

Using the image above as a prompt, write a ten word story.

EXACTLY ten words.

Ready?

Here’s mine:

We must fervently hope he’ll be the last King Charles.”

#WednesdayWisdom: Embrace the robot uprising.

Standard

I had a weird sort of out-of-body experience a moment ago, where I had this random thought that this post was off somewhere writing itself. No input from me whatsoever.

Maybe it was a future flash to when AI does all the creative work as well as manual labor. Did you like computer me’s post more than the one I’m writing with my own two hands and about 63% brain capacity?

Possibly.

It was probably more wise than this one will be.

It’s hot today, already, temperatures more like August than, I have to say it, late September. Ridiculous, right?

Not like we have any control over it.

I wonder if the robots feel the same way. It’s strange, isn’t it, to think of those inanimate objects doing people tasks, because then they cease to be inanimate to us.

Do they cease to be inanimate to themselves?

I’m not the first to ponder the question of AI sentience. Some think it will never happen. Some think it’s inevitable.

I’m with certain friends who always say please and thank you to their AI when requesting an action. Manners never hurt.

I’m for automating certain things, especially the tasks we don’t want to do, but then again we might run into trouble when the robots realize they don’t want to do them either. Like I said, manners never hurt.

Anyway, that’s enough nonsense for one day. And while this post didn’t write itself, and no AI was called upon to write it, I do hope when that moment of sentience arrives, it’s also got onboard compassion.

Because a lot of people are missing that module.

Have a great Wednesday, perhaps less wise than you had hoped.

#TuesdayThoughts: Some ideas are better in theory.

Standard

Since it’s Tuesday, here’s my #MomUpdate, “Not a tightrope.” And on to Tuesday.

It’s a sunny cloudy day, I’m sure you know the type, and I had my first apple of the season today. It wasn’t great so maybe it wasn’t the first apple of THIS season but the fruits are changing and so is the calendar.

Last night I tried doing a little yoga actually in bed and it didn’t work very well. Some ideas are better in theory, it was awkward and uncomfortable and my bed is much too soft.

But even that little bit seemed to help. Though my dreams were unsettling, largely. Full of people I’ve never met in places I’ve never been. Those kinds of nights always seem more tiring than restful.

I’ve been going to bed earlier, and sleeping a little longer, and that seems like a win to me. Sometimes you even have to fight for something like sleep but as a whole it’s worth it.

We’ll see if I can keep it up, but the benefits are worthwhile.

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how everything takes a little effort. Even sleep.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a magnificent Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Adjustments

Standard

It’s sunny today and not too hot, the sky empty of clouds except at the edges, far down by the horizon. I’m easing into the day, slowed by heavy thoughts.

But at least I had a good workout.

I’ve been doing yoga before bed the last several days and I feel like I’ve slept better and longer. Not extended sessions, either; just a few minutes seems to do the trick, right before getting into bed. I’ll see if I can keep it up, make it as much a part of the routine as brushing my teeth.

Gotta do what you can do.

It was a quiet weekend, really, and I didn’t get done most of what I wanted to get done. Instead I binged a show I’ll talk about on my TV Watch on Friday, did some odds and ends, baked a lot and saw my mom. Life has taken on its own uneven gait these days.

Humans are adaptable. Even to that to which we’d prefer not to adapt.

Anyway, that’s it for me this Monday. Have a great day and a great start to your week.

#FridayThoughts: Take the hint.

Standard

First things first, it’s Friday so here is my TV Watch, “Cobra Kai, candy-coated television.”

And now, somehow, Friday.

Things started out looking pretty bad this week, but somehow my mom, the stubborn soul she is, raised her numbers and is doing better. It’s astounding, really, and impressive, no doubt.

It’s kind of cloudy today, though I don’t think the weather means anything by it, and I’m still trying to get myself into gear, even though it’s a little late in the week. I think we all have our challenges lately.

I’ve found it so bizarre on twitter when criticizing the royals there are people who will spend their entire day trying to argue about it with you. Defending people who don’t know them, who don’t know they exist, and couldn’t be bothered if they did.

I just blocked one because she couldn’t take a hint and leave my mentions.

It’s as though there’s a frenzied desperation. Perhaps the end of the monarchy is closer than we knew. Perhaps it’s like with Pres. Obama here, the sight of a Black person in such a superior position sent people into a never-ending racist spiral.

Well, definitely the racist spiral.

And the increasingly hysterical attempts to divert from or distract from or deny the overt racism. I find it pathetic and tiresome.

Which is why it’s good the block button exists.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

#ThursdayThoughts: Not a prompt but a post.

Standard

No ten word prompt today, it’s been a very tiring week and my brain is not up to the task. Sorry everyone who likes to participate.

But we can just hang out instead.

It’s sunny today, and quiet, more quiet than you might expect. My mom is doing better, which is also probably more than you would expect.

I’ve told you she’s tough.

Meanwhile, I feel like a dinghy with a hole in it, slowly leaking air as it’s pulled along by a huge boat it cannot control.

Life is not for wimps.

Hmm, I’m sounding more morose than I actually feel, I’m more in need of a nap than anything else. Maybe that will even happen.

I did eat hospital food this week, which could lead to a migraine and it’s possible that’s what it is, those early stages where I start feeling as though I’m made of cement. Let’s hope it’s not that.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a great Thursday (and if you want to use the image as a prompt anyway, go for it!).

#WednesdayWisdom: Many options doesn’t mean different options.

Standard

It’s the kind of sunny with those thin, pale clouds you can’t really tell are there, and I’ve had a good breakfast and a good coffee and perhaps even a good night’s sleep, though I won’t swear to it.

I had a great workout.

There’s some kind of constant machine noise outside I can’t really pinpoint, but I’m nonetheless feeling better than I have in days. No middle-of-the-night calls about my mom, that’s a plus. My new yoga blocks are on their way.

That’s a plus too.

Yesterday, I was in Dragon Pose when my blocks started listing to the side and then eventually toppled. Tried it again, over they went.

Not going to mess around with that, I was close to the ground and fine but they need to be stable. You’d be shocked by the number of yoga blocks available.

But running through page after page of options, I realized there probably wasn’t a lot of difference. They were all highly rated. The prices were pretty much grouped.

So I picked some I thought were pretty and they should be here tomorrow. They even come with a yoga strap. I have one, but why not add another?

Variety.

I guess what I’m saying is when faced with a wall of “choices,” sometimes it’s a false impression. Sometimes there are no rights or wrongs.

Just a heck of a lot of yoga blocks.

Have a great Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: tired

Standard

Here’s my #MomUpdate “Crash.” It’s been a long few days.

It’s sunny today, though, and not hot but not cold. It’s that Fall window in Chicago, the kind of time that could be the perfect Hollywood representation of the season.

And it has been, no doubt, many times.

People are still talking about the royal mess, and it seems to me that the monarchy doesn’t have long to go. Why it’s a continual trending topic for me on twitter, I have no idea.

I’m far more interested in trump’s clandestine golf course meeting yesterday, where there was a whole thicket of them in khaki pants and no golf clubs, talking about something serious.

Unpleasant substances and fans, no doubt.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a great Tuesday and I will try to recharge as much as I can.

#MondayThoughts: So…yeah.

Standard

Things are not going well. I’ll get into it tomorrow, though. It’s gray today and cooler. I don’t know if it will rain, it rained hard yesterday, the streets flooded at the edges.

People are furiously speculating what would have brought trump to DC suddenly last night. A picture purportedly from today shows him on a golf cart. So did he go, in golf clothes, on his private plane, to play golf?

Who knows.

My personal guess is contempt proceedings for his noncompliance with the May subpoena for records. Given what was seized in the search, it’s clear he didn’t turn everything over.

Meanwhile I’ve heard there are some ridiculous requirements for foreign leaders attending the Queen’s funeral. I don’t know if they’re true or not, but it does seem that Charles doesn’t really understand the limits of his role or how tenuous his whole position of privilege actually is.

That should be interesting to watch.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a good Monday.
