#FridayThoughts: Many different thoughts.

Standard

First, #TVWatch, “Wednesday for Friday.” And now Friday for Friday.

It’s snowing, actual real snow, the kind that is piling up on the ground. So far it doesn’t look deep but I’m not sure how long it will continue.

This morning I discovered I had no voice. I’ve had a headache on and off, which isn’t unusual for me, and I’ve been kind of tired and draggy, but otherwise I haven’t really had any symptoms. So who knows.

There are many, many bugs going around.

Apparently one of them found me. Fun times. Who knows, maybe my voice will just recover and I’ll be fine. That happens, right?

Sure.

So yesterday twitter purged a whole bunch of journalists from the platform. The total demise doesn’t seem that far off.

It’s hard to believe that a whole vehicle democracy could be destroyed in weeks for a heap of money, but that’s the world we live in now. It should have been regulated like a utility.

Perhaps that’s the future of social media.

But I’m on Post, which is my likely new home when Twitter goes. I haven’t left it, but I’m not sure it will still be there to use.

And on that note, I will wish you a great Friday and a wonderful weekend. That’s it for the week.

#ThursdayThoughts ten word photo prompt: Floaty

Standard
Photo by Tembela Bohle on Pexels.com

It’s THURSDAY! Which means our #ThursdayTen!

And this week, I’m going to try posting this on twitter AND and on post! (I’m on Post!) So pick your place or play in both, that’s fine with me!

Anyway, using the image above as a prompt, write a ten word story.

EXACTLY ten words. Easy as that!

Which is kind of difficult but whatever.

Ready? Here’s mine:

“Why do they complain about Earth?” thought AXiodnONatoxgn. “Nice assignment.

#WednesdayWisdom: And he was glorious.

Standard

CW: suicide.

Were these prompts always here? Did I just not notice them?

Today was “Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech.” And I have to wonder…is there anyone who hasn’t done either of those things? Or at least one of them?

Even back in the recesses of youth?

And now the very thing meant to steer the conversation has derailed it. Or maybe not. I guess we’ll have to see how this all goes.

Today is one of those days that is gray inside and outside, with a rain that is neither pretty nor dramatic, but only there.

My thoughts are consumed right now with the death of Twitch–real name Stephen Bos– as I remember his incredible talent, and remember watching the sparks fly between him and his future wife, Allison Hoker on So You Think You Can Dance. And dance they could.

Have you ever performed on stage?

Twitch’s cause of death, they say, was suicide. And my heart hurts for his family, my heart hurts for him, for whatever was so overwhelming inside of him he couldn’t survive it.

Was all his life a stage?

I wish comfort to his family who will now have to learn a different way to live. We are sad but they are devastated.

Have you ever performed on stage?

Twitch did. And he was glorious.

#TuesdayThoughts: Elaborate magic trick

Standard

First, #ChatTuesday, “Quiet corner of calm.” And now on to Tuesday!

I don’t know if it’s raining or snowing or all of the above or none of the above but it’s one of those heavy cloud days, which seems appropriate somehow. It’s a heavy feeling this week, I don’t know if it’s just me.

Or if it’s everyone,

Of course this time of year was bound to be tough for me, at least last year when my mom was sick, I could get her things or pick a gift for her.

This year there will be no gifts.

Not for her, not for my brother, but that’s one of those things no one can do a thing about. We can only accept it and move on, but when you think about the actions behind those words, it all seems like an elaborate magic trick.

Today I’m fresh out of magic.

Oh well.

Things are changing, as they always do, and I’m not entirely thrilled about that either. As if you couldn’t tell by now.

So I’m going to go grump my way through the day, or reread my Quiet corner of calm post to try to get back into that headspace, one or the other.

And you have a fantastic Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Who do I envy?

Standard

It’s gray, I think it rained overnight, I’m not sure. I don’t know if those big storms west of us are heading this way, but I guess I’ll watch it.

The blog offered another prompt today: “Who do you envy?” This time I didn’t even hesitate before I started writing but there it is.

“Who do you envy?”

What a weird question. Envy is an ugly thing, I think, with an undercurrent of jealous hatred, of entitlement. Envy sounds like you think that someone else’s circumstances should be yours.

Should we encourage such thinking?

Who do I envy?

Everyone and no one.

Every single life has problems, no matter what social media says. And some may seem more manageable than others to us, but that’s also often when you’re well outside of them.

Everything is distorted from the inside the bubble.

Honestly the most I can hope for today is to get through my list of nagging chores, things I have no desire to do, as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Who do I envy? People whose lists are already done, that’s who I envy.

Have a great Monday.

#FridayThoughts: Wintry

Standard

First, #TVWatch! This week, “What’s wrong with happy?”

And now on to Friday. The image for the TV watch was generated using craiyon.com, the fully free mini version of DALL-E, that AI drawing software. I think I’m having too much fun with the whole AI drawing thing.

Let’s be honest, a human artist could have done far better and likely executed what I had in mind, only through their talent lens which would make what I thought better. But it’s still quirky and amusing, I think.

Much like me, I think.

Anyway, it’s been snowing and raining, though I think more snow than rain. I couldn’t tell you what it’s doing now, but the ground is wet and it looks miserable.

Which is fitting.

We’re all the way at Friday again, somehow, in a year that is rapidly sliding away. I will never get used to it.

And then it will be next year.

Time’s a jerk.

Anyway that’s it for me this week, have an amazing Friday and the best weekend.

#ThursdayThoughts #ThursdayTen: Unexpected

Standard

Trying out a new headline…what do you think? Ten word photo prompt easier? Harder?

Today’s image again comes to us from a DALL-E me/AI collaboration. I don’t think it understood what I asked for, and yet I really like this strange result.

So using the image above as a prompt, write a ten word story.

EXACTLY ten words.

I hope your imagination is more vast than the AI’s. Or maybe the AI’s imagination is vast indeed.

It’s really hard to tell.

Ready? Here’s mine.

Danni hesitated, remembering the Pied Piper, then began her ascent.

#WednesdayWisdom: Take the road more traveled.

Standard

So I opened this post, got distracted with other things, and came back to find a prompt: “Do you have a favorite place you’ve visited? Where is it?”

I’ve never gotten a prompt before, though usually I get further than not starting a post before something pulls my attention away. But you know what?

Why not go with the prompt?

We don’t always have to take the hard road. There isn’t necessarily honor or extra universal bonus points in it. It’s OK to take the road more traveled, if that’s your inkling.

So do I have a favorite place I’ve visited?

That’s a harder question than it sounds because going anywhere can be a gift. I’ve been very, very lucky. I’ve gotten to see Darwin’s finches with my own eyes, flittering through customs and perched on the back of a tour bus seat.

I’ve seen otters playing among glaciers in Alaska and breathed air cool and crisp even in the middle of July.

I’ve watched the funniest play I’ve ever seen in London, and wandered through an Edinburgh crammed to its gills during the Festival, I’ve glimpsed treasures in our nation’s capital and the most unbelievable flowers made of glass in Boston.

Here at home I can visit some of the world’s greatest works of art like old friends, examine the skeletons of long-gone beasts, Zen out jellyfish living their calm existence. Choosing a favorite seems unnecessary.

They’re all amazing in their own way, all special experiences neatly filed away in my mind.

So I guess only sort of used the prompt. And there’s nothing wrong with that either.

Have a great Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Less metaphor, more literal description.

Standard

First, #ChatTuesday, “Cacophony of baking dreams.” And now Tuesday.

It’s foggy out, at least that’s what I think it is, it could be rain. Probably not snow, though that’s what I thought it was at first. But it’s too warm.

Today is one of those gotta run days, things to do beyond the norm and that always makes this space feel different to me. Like there’s a little ticking clock next to the page, which, when you think about it there really is so that’s less metaphor and more literal description.

Still it feels different to me than when the amount of time we spend here together is completely open to whatever thoughts flit by.

Well, not today.

Today we will be precise, which I just spelled “prices” so I think we both know that’s extremely unlikely. Today it we will be as always are, I guess, a quick but meaningful hello in a sea of everything else.

It’s how things work around here, I suppose.

We do what we can do in the time allotted to do it, and the reality is that we can do no more than that. We can probably do less.

But we can do no more.

So let’s not put the pressure on ourselves to do otherwise.

And have a fabulous Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Mystery of tomorrow.

Standard

It’s gray, though it wasn’t just a little while ago, and rain may be imminent. Or snow maybe, I haven’t looked at the temperature. Hm, 31 F.

Could be snow.

Probably snow.

I guess we’ll see.

I’m more awake than I should be, for that we can probably thank my coffee, because I didn’t sleep well overall. And yet here I am, perky as anything, though that could wear off and you may not be able to tell from over there. You’ll just have to take my word for it.

Was that a snowflake? Possibly. It is December.

It’s almost impossible for me to believe this year has gone, as you know most of it was like I wasn’t here at all, but watching my mom’s slow, awful slide. I don’t even know what things I didn’t do that I could have done or the projects I might have completed if my attention had been more than a flitting moth that never settled.

But no one can reshape the past, not even the Doctor in most instances, and sometimes even the present isn’t terribly cooperative. Maybe the mystery of tomorrow has to be enough.

Anyway that’s it for me today. Have a great Monday and a wonderful start to your week.
