#FridayThoughts: Spending the same money to get less.

Standard

It’s another one of those days when I can’t really tell what it’s doing outside. I guess I’ll know when it gets there.

I’ve changed up my fitness routine after realizing Daily Burn is on week 3 of “encore” workouts, and by that they mean recycled material. The biggest appeal for me was the fresh content five days a week, but that’s happening less frequently. And given the fast approach of Christmas, I can only assume the encores will continue into the new year.

During the pandemic, it was all recycled for a long time, until they figured out a way to make new 365 workouts with the constraints. And not only did people stick with them (including me), the streamer grew.

In a large part to people (including me) touting them as a gym alternative.

And now it feels like they learned the wrong lesson from that. Not that people will stay loyal and try to help your company through hard times, but that you can provide people less content for the same money and they’ll hang in anyway.

I put my account on pause, and I didn’t even get an auto email over it. I’ve been with Daily Burn for years. Though I don’t participate in the facebook group bc it’s on facebook, I’ve still retweeted the main account and encouraged people to try it.

Perhaps they figure I’m not a heavy user because streaming the workouts on a TV app rarely leads to them being recorded by the site. Perhaps they have grown enough that customer retention isn’t necessary.

I think my pause is going to turn into a permanent quit. There are so many other options now, again, partially because of the pandemic, I don’t see the point of spending the same money to get less.

And that’s me for this Friday. Have a great day and a fantabulous weekend.

accountaclub-woodIt’s that time, AccountAbles! #AccountaClub Friday, where we talk about how our weeks went, and how we’re doing with our goals.

Mostly writing goals, but they don’t have to be; all goals and life changes are completely welcome! You can leave a comment here, or, if you prefer, write a post about it and drop the link in the comments so we can come cheer you on!

This week was definitely more productive than last. I think I’ve finally recovered from my vacation, which was amazing and fantastic and wonderful. And exhausting. Still haven’t gone through my pictures; maybe I should add that to the goals.

Writing-wise, not too bad, I started something that I thought was new, but then realized it was part of a project already underway. That’s a weird and kind of fun feeling when the writing seems somewhere outside of you.

Did my political piece, got a little editing done on that novel that is, at the moment, like plunging my hands into a trough of spaghetti. I really need to build up my editing endurance again.

Speaking of endurance, on a non-writing note, if you hang out here, you probably know I enjoy my yoga, which I try to do every day. That wasn’t possible on my vacation, as I was on a cruise ship and couldn’t even unfurl a yoga mat fully in the cabin, but I’ve gotten back into it since I’ve been home.

But I’ve found that, even when coupled with walking, the yoga just isn’t enough. I’ve tried to do other workouts later in the day, but found my motivation flagging. I’m a big fan of variety in my exercise, so I finally decided to try Daily Burn, a streaming exercise service with new interval workouts every day, I think, or probably Monday-Friday.

I didn’t join their site, I did it as an Amazon add-on, so it’s a little less ($14.99 a month versus $19.99) but it appears you don’t get access to the community features or live workouts. You can still stream the live workouts; you just don’t get them live.

And I love it. I LOVE IT. The workouts are really challenging, but only 30 minutes. You can’t get bored because they’re different; there are even different instructors each day. It has a positive, honest vibe. Totally a convert.

The best part is that it has really helped my focus. It burns (ha!) off much of the excess energy that can interfere with concentration. I think I’ve found a good balance between my AM yoga and these workouts, because I don’t have to worry about trying to intensify the yoga, I can just do what feels good.

And that’s my extra-long week!

How was yours?
