#FridayThoughts: Spending the same money to get less.

Standard

It’s another one of those days when I can’t really tell what it’s doing outside. I guess I’ll know when it gets there.

I’ve changed up my fitness routine after realizing Daily Burn is on week 3 of “encore” workouts, and by that they mean recycled material. The biggest appeal for me was the fresh content five days a week, but that’s happening less frequently. And given the fast approach of Christmas, I can only assume the encores will continue into the new year.

During the pandemic, it was all recycled for a long time, until they figured out a way to make new 365 workouts with the constraints. And not only did people stick with them (including me), the streamer grew.

In a large part to people (including me) touting them as a gym alternative.

And now it feels like they learned the wrong lesson from that. Not that people will stay loyal and try to help your company through hard times, but that you can provide people less content for the same money and they’ll hang in anyway.

I put my account on pause, and I didn’t even get an auto email over it. I’ve been with Daily Burn for years. Though I don’t participate in the facebook group bc it’s on facebook, I’ve still retweeted the main account and encouraged people to try it.

Perhaps they figure I’m not a heavy user because streaming the workouts on a TV app rarely leads to them being recorded by the site. Perhaps they have grown enough that customer retention isn’t necessary.

I think my pause is going to turn into a permanent quit. There are so many other options now, again, partially because of the pandemic, I don’t see the point of spending the same money to get less.

And that’s me for this Friday. Have a great day and a fantabulous weekend.

#FridayThoughts: #AccountaClub, January 2020

Standard

So here we are, the first last Friday of the year, and time for #AccountaClub! For the new arrivals, AccountaClub is where we talk about our goals and how they’re going, and in 2020, it’s happening on the last Friday of every month.

Goals for me were medium this month. I did some editing, but not enough; I was largely derailed by this cold that is gaining ferocity daily. It’s a tricky one.

I did start doing some freelancing for Rantt Media, it seems that the political writing is going to flood out of me no matter what, I might as well lean into it.

Fitness-wise, my goal is to do five Daily Burn workouts a week, and I got all my workouts in, despite the cold. I’m particularly proud of that, this week it was very difficult, but I modified as necessary and didn’t push too hard. I think that’s a good life lesson, as forward motion is forward motion.

And that’s me. How was your January?

My brain wanted to type 2017, but my fingers knew better. Here we are at the very very back edge of 2019.

On the cusp of 2020, a year that once sounded so far in the future it was probably going to happen in the far reaches of space. I wonder if they felt that way about 1920.

Anyway, it’s AccountaClub time, when we talk about how our weeks and our projects are going.

Editing went, not in a stellar way, but I made progress. Fitness was five days, five workouts, and they were pretty good. Today was yoga, which is always, always a favorite.

And that was my week. How was yours?

It’s been a week, I’ll tell you. She’s going to be OK, but my mom had a heart attack on Monday, I had a friend in from out of town and I, of course, managed to pick up a cold.

So it might shock you to learn I haven’t gotten much done in the way of editing or writing. I even forgot to write a blog post entirely on Wednesday.

My mom is home from the hospital and recovering well. It’s important to know that heart attack symptoms in women may not be like those in men; I did a thread:

I’m proud of the fitness though, because I did my five days, even with all that was going on. I think it may have even helped me get through it. The exercise definitely did.

I’m pretty tired overall. So that’s me. How was your week?

Friday again! And so quickly, too.

I’m not feeling bloggy today, so it will be a quick one. Some progress was made with editing, but then I had a weird glitch and I lost my work which did not make me happy.

Plus side, only the first time through so it wasn’t very substantive.

Minus side, that’s still annoying.

I’m not missing doing NaNoWriMo, so I’m glad I opted out this year. As for fitness, five days, five workouts, so that was good.

How was your week?

It’s been a week, all right. But here we are, delivered to Friday once again, and it’s time to talk about how it’s all going.

I’ve started to edit the manuscript. While I’m not into the thick of the plot yet, and there are a lot of sentences making me want to confiscate my computer from myself, I did make myself laugh a few times.

So that’s something.

I really like the ability in Word to essentially mark up the manuscript on a tablet like you’re working on paper, yet still having the option of an on-screen keyboard to make notes. It’s the closest thing to printing it out and going over it, without all the tree murder.

And extra bonus, I can actually read my notes later.

Fitness-wise, it was five days, five workouts. They were challenging, but not as tough as they have been. A few of them were even enjoyable. That’s always a bonus.

And that’s me. How was your week?

Behind today, I was waylaid by a tweet that has generated a bunch of responses, some of them thoughtful, some of them abusive, some of them just plain propaganda. And again.

I need to focus on us here. Hi.

So not much writing done this week unless you count tweets, though I did make a joke that got a good reception and no mean comments so I feel like that’s an accomplishment.

Fitness, five days, five workouts but I was really draggy this week. Even today the trainer was one of my favorites and it was one of my favorite types of workout. It flew by but it was a struggle.

I may have a cold but I feel like I’m fighting it off.

Meanwhile it’s thunderstormy and I love it.

So that’s me. How was your week?

So it’s Friday! I hope you had a good time with #PromptaPalooza, it was definitely fun finding the prompts. Not that I’ve done any of them, I should get on that.

But I was away, in Boston for a few days. There’s so much to see there, and I did just a fraction of it. Their art museum, the Museum of Fine Arts is fantastic. I wish I could have covered more, but focused mainly in the American Art, with furniture and portraits and the sense of the time around the founding of our country.

I saw the glass flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, and they are a remarkable sight. They look alive in a way I’ve never seen glass before. I posted some pictures on Twitter if you’re interested.

Overall it was a fascinating trip but it involved no writing. Which is fair, I think, it’s a vacation after all.

But I did keep up with the fitness. I left very early on Friday, but managed to do a Daily Burn workout from the library, a yoga-based one. And then on Monday I used the hotel fitness room. Tuesday I did the Daily Burn workout from Monday, and Wednesday I was back home and back to normal.

Although I walked A LOT in Boston. A LOT. It would be nice to get that much in back here at home, but it’s tougher.

So that’s me. How was your week?

It’s Friday! That means it’s #AccountaClub time! And this week, I have writing news.

I have finally, finally finished the first draft of the manuscript I’ve been working on since about the time of the dinosaurs.

Well, maybe not quite that long.

But a long time, nonetheless. Can I get a woo-hoo?

So yes, editing lies ahead, but it’s been a long time since I finished a novel draft. Good week in that respect.

Fitness, five days, five workouts, though this week was quite a drag. We were doing benchmarks, where we test our progress over the year, and I improved my numbers so I guess that’s a win. Still I’m happy to have a rest day tomorrow.

And that’s me. How was your week?

I have flitting summer brain right now, as we move into August and Fall lurks just around the corner. It’s been a quick summer but they always seem that way, don’t they?

The dog days. Why they’re called that, I don’t know, but that they are.

Of course I had to look it up. It has to do with the constellation Sirius and not at all with heat, which I’d assumed.

I like the lazy dog version better.

Not going to linger today, not much to report writing-wise, only bits and bobbles, and the fitness was five days, five workouts.

How was your week?
