#TuesdayThoughts: Coffee telepathy

Standard

First things first, here is my Tuesday #MomUpdate, “Mysteries of my mom.” And on with Tuesday.

It’s gray today, and chilly. One thing about Chicago: the weather will do whatever it wants to do, whenever it wants to do it. We’re tough people, we can take it.

But my arms are cold. Hoodie time.

It’s a second-cup-of-coffee kind of day, and I made it without any internal struggle. I just decided I needed it and there it was.

Well, I mean I took all the steps to make coffee, I haven’t perfected coffee telepathy yet.

Yet.

I’m still doing daily yoga, but now with Gaia, I have worlds more latitude. Today all I wanted to do was yoga, and the right practice just appeared as a suggestion. It helped, too.

We set so many rules for ourselves, arbitrary rules, rules, if we sat to think about them, we couldn’t quite explain the rigidity. With everything going on, I’m trying to be more fluid.

And drink more fluid, apparently.

OK I’m going to take that as a hint to stop for today. Have a great Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Those Greek gods are at it again.

Standard

First things first, which is a bit rich this late in the day, but here is my #MomUpdate, “Drumbeat so omnipresent.”

And on to Tuesday, or what’s left of it.

Today has already proven a mess, one that makes me wonder if the planets are engaged in the kind of war that originated the Greek myths. Those Greek gods are at it again.

Not one thing has gone smoothly yet today, as you can probably tell given how tardy I am to this little space where we usually have a morning chat. It’s definitely not morning now.

I had a grocery delivery and the delivery person, like a trapped ghost, wanted me to help her move on, but from the delivery, which the app didn’t allow her to do. It took ages, and I had to wonder about my frozen foods.

I didn’t know what the problem was, but eventually she was released into whatever comes next.

And then I found that one of my cases of La Croix water was opened, the cans repacked into it. So I had to try to figure out how to deal with that, which ended up being an electronic chat. With a computer.

It did not pass the Turing Test.

Anyway, I suspect you are having issues of your own today, so I will bid you good luck and smooth going from here on out. Have a great Tuesday.

It’s still Tuesday, right?

#TuesdayThoughts: Sweatshirt weather.

Standard

Photo by Quang Nguyen Vinh on Pexels.com

First things first, here is my Tuesday #MomUpdate, “An enlightened little ant.” And on with Tuesday.

It’s sunny now, sunny like it wasn’t gray for weeks on end; sunny like the sky doesn’t know the meaning of rain.

Hmm.

After wildly high temperatures, even hitting the 90s this early in the year, we’re back to more sensible numbers in the high 50s. In a normal spring, that would feel warm but after the sweltering high, everything feels a bit chilly.

It’s all relative.

Oh well you’ve got to love a temperature that lets you wear a sweatshirt.

When you think about it, there’s something to enjoy about every season. No matter what, it means change.

Not always the change you want, but still, change.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a terrific Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Aren’t they all.

Standard

It’s Tuesday, so here’s the link to my #MomUpdate, “All the silent clubs.” And now on with Tuesday.

It’s been a mixed-up kind of morning. I worked out longer than I intended and it threw me off, but I needed it for sure.

I’ll call this week an endurance week.

And yes, I agree with you, aren’t they all.

It’s very warm today, like summer warm, and it’s another Chicago year in which I wonder what happened, exactly, to spring. It basically appears for a day or two, shows off its outfit and says “I’m out.”

At least it’s not freezing.

I feel like “endurance,” given everything going on right now, is an appropriate theme.

Anyway, that’s it for me for today. Have a great Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: In case you’re wondering yes it’s as bad here as it sounds.

Standard

First, here’s my #MomUpdate, “Our whole lives.” And on with Tuesday.

To my friends in other places in the world wondering what, on earth, is happening in the erstwhile “land of the free,” it does, in fact, look like the highest court in the US, the Supreme Court (Supreme Court of the United States or SCOTUS as it gets called on social media) is set to overrule the landmark case that made abortion safe and legal in the US.

The important thing is that abortion is not all that case covers. The right to abortion is based in the right to privacy. Right to privacy from the government is the reasoning for a whole lot of other things: access to birth control, for example.

The draft opinion also makes clear these “Justices” will try to overturn same-sex marriage. Essentially they want to create a theocracy based in a single religion despite the Constitution prohibiting that.

The problem is that the Court has the full authority to say what the Constitution MEANS. It says what the Court says it says.

We are, to put it technically, screwed.

There are some possible remedies. Congress can pass a law saying abortion is legal. The problem is the Court can overrule it and say it’s not constitutional.

Unless one of these conservatives leaves–unlikely–or goes to prison–who knows in the case of Clarence Thomas whose wife may have helped plan the insurrection–our best option is to expand the Court.

Right now, there are 13 federal circuits. There should be 13 Justices. The number should remain tied to the size of the federal bench.

Of course none of this is easy. And Democrats would have to expand our bare majority in the Senate in the elections coming up in November.

The former guy may be former, but his damage lives on.

Anyway, have a great Tuesday in spite of it all. We’re doing our best over here, but the fascists are pernicious.

#TuesdayThoughts: A random memory

Standard

It’s Tuesday, so here is my Mom Update, “Endless Teeter Totter,” if you’re interested. And on with the post.

I used to have a friend, you know the kind you meet through the virtual universe. And I started signing off my blog posts the way I do now, wishing you the best for your day.

And what sticks in my mind is the way he told me I was repeating myself too frequently in the way I did it, choosing the wrong words, wrong because they became familiar.

Here I am, years later, struck by the audacity of it, his feeling that censoring this space that is all mine, completely mine, was within his realm. His boldness to make me feel awkward, to make me feel bad about something that is strictly between me and you.

The thing is I stopped doing it.

But then it came back, a daily rhythm that found itself in tune with the weekly one. And here we are.

We later fell out because he said something incredibly offensive, and I had the nerve to be offended by it. He was angry at me.

It’s happened that way more than once, I’m sure you’ve experienced it too, where the crime isn’t the offense but the noting of the offense, the refusing to ignore the offense.

And off they go. Gone, mostly forgotten, and honestly, not missed.

A random memory, to be sure.

Anyway, have a fantastic Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: The intention of writing

Standard

It’s Tuesday, so please feel free to read my #MomUpdate, “Hope feels dangerous.” And now on to Tuesday.

I think my migraine is retreating, at least I hope it is. Sometimes it’s like viewing the world through a mud curtain. Not the best choice of materials.

It’s a mix of cloudy and not cloudy today, and still pretty chilly for mid-April. Yesterday had a brief bout of snow on the ground.

No wonder my head rebelled.

I’m hoping to get myself back to some broader writing now, but you all know how that goes. The intention of writing and the work of writing are two very different things.

Anyway, that’s it for me this Tuesday. Have a great day.

#TuesdayThoughts: Great weather when you’re annoyed

Standard

It’s Tuesday so here’s this week’s Mom Update. It’s one of those mornings where small things keep going wrong, not with major impact but enough to annoy.

Which is, we can all agree, irksome.

It’s a rainy day, gloomy and rainy, and that feels about right. Great weather when you’re annoyed really ruins the mood.

It’s amazing how you can start the day with the best of intentions, and then all these potholes and bumps add up into full grumpiness. Does any one thing merit it?

Maybe not.

Yet here I am. And since bad moods are contagious, I don’t want to share mine with you. I’ll mask up and call it a post.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, I hope it lacks all of my annoyance.

#TuesdayThoughts: Too much thinking

Standard

So it’s Tuesday. I did a Mom Update, but if you just can’t put your mind to it right now, I understand.

It’s been a lot. It’s still a lot. We are all holding our breath, not really knowing if a line will be crossed that cannot be uncrossed.

Not a comforting thought.

And that’s the thing, I’ve been doing too much thinking lately. Way, way too much thinking. Pretty much none of it is good.

Meanwhile, in the background I’ve had a song stuck in my head, trust me you don’t want to know which, you don’t want it shared, but its frantic pace spins along with my thoughts. And I shouldn’t have written about it because it was finally gone and now it’s back.

Stupid earworm.

Mindfulness should help, but there’s a reason it’s called a discipline. Because it takes a lot of it.

Anyway, strength again to Ukraine, a huge chunk of those racing thoughts are with you.

Have a great Tuesday, whatever that is for you right now.

#WednesdayWisdom: Shrug and move on

Standard

You may have noticed I didn’t do a Mom Update yesterday. Here it is, and it inspired today’s blog post.

Talk about your bang for your proverbial buck, proverbial as it’s not like I’m charging admission here.

I simply forgot to do it yesterday. Completely forgot.

And in calmer times I might have agonized. I might have dropped everything else to get it up and published in a rush.

But I didn’t. I figured I could just do it today. There are no rules requiring it to go up on Tuesday. No laws. No deadlines beyond the self-imposed.

Sometimes you’re going to drop a ball. Sometimes you may drop an entire gym locker of them. But as long as no one gets hurt, most of the time, you can find that ball where it rolled under the couch and get right back to it.

Shrug and move on. The world probably will.

And with that, I’ll call it a post. Have a great Wednesday.
