#TuesdayThoughts: Kilterish.

Standard

So I felt I needed one final #MomUpdate, “Epilogue.” And on to Tuesday.

It’s overcast again. I’m feeling less congested than yesterday, so maybe it really is allergies. Also it occurred to me that we’ve been masking for so long, we haven’t been as exposed to outdoor allegens.

So who knows.

It’s overcast and gray again today, weather I usually attribute to next month rather than this one. But it’s fine, it’s chilly and it’s supposed to be. It’s that time of year.

I was watching a Korean show that vanished from Hulu mid-watch, I cannot find it now. Maybe it never existed at all, it did seem like something I’d made up.

I’m going to have to subscribe to the Korean streaming channel to finish it, I think. I mean not like that’s some big burden, there will be a ton of stuff for me to watch on it.

I assume.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a great Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Autumnal.

Standard

First, my #MomUpdate, “Cloudy silver linings.” And now Tuesday.

It’s sunny and chilly and really this is my favorite fall weather. Warm enough that you can forget about January, but cool enough for a sweater or sweatshirt.

Cozy.

Pretty leaves on the trees, that fresh crispness in the air, what’s not to like?

Oh, right. Winter looming.

Well, it’s going to arrive one way or another.

Honestly I can’t believe we’re this far through the year already, it’s like someone spun the wheel extra hard.

I’ve been a bit behind all morning and got cream cheese and raspberry sauce on my pants, which is another reason to be glad I’m a writer and not somewhere where I’d have to explain the blob. Raspberry sauce is surprisingly stainy.

Anyway that’s it for me today, have a lovely Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Some ideas are better in theory.

Standard

Since it’s Tuesday, here’s my #MomUpdate, “Not a tightrope.” And on to Tuesday.

It’s a sunny cloudy day, I’m sure you know the type, and I had my first apple of the season today. It wasn’t great so maybe it wasn’t the first apple of THIS season but the fruits are changing and so is the calendar.

Last night I tried doing a little yoga actually in bed and it didn’t work very well. Some ideas are better in theory, it was awkward and uncomfortable and my bed is much too soft.

But even that little bit seemed to help. Though my dreams were unsettling, largely. Full of people I’ve never met in places I’ve never been. Those kinds of nights always seem more tiring than restful.

I’ve been going to bed earlier, and sleeping a little longer, and that seems like a win to me. Sometimes you even have to fight for something like sleep but as a whole it’s worth it.

We’ll see if I can keep it up, but the benefits are worthwhile.

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how everything takes a little effort. Even sleep.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a magnificent Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Unsettling.

Standard

It’s Tuesday, so here is my latest #MomUpdate, “Coming to terms with truths.” And now Tuesday.

This morning I debated hot or iced coffee. I went with hot, but it’s gotten cold so I guess I got a little of both?

Looking on the bright side.

Speaking of the bright side, it’s cloudy, it looks like it’s going to rain but the flat gray sky is glowing like fully sun. Maybe it’s rainbow weather.

Maybe.

While it’s still blazing hot in many places, we’ve cooled considerably and have a moderate 70 degrees today. Autumn is definitely on its way.

As we’re trying to make sense of what a truly activist judge has done in the trump case, the damage he inflicted on the judiciary cannot be overstated. This would be less unsettling if we could be certain of the Appeals court.

But we can’t.

We’re still on this rocky ride, and we have to hope for the best in how it winds up.

That’s it for me this Tuesday. Have a great day.

#TuesdayThoughts: Write it down.

Standard

First things first, here’s my #MomUpdate, “The things we don’t say aloud,” if you’d like to read it. And on to Tuesday.

It’s a mix of sunny and cloudy today, and it’s one of those days where I had a great idea for a blog post, but I didn’t write it down.

“I’ll remember,” I told myself.

Well.

I did not.

It’s funny how that happens, you get an idea and it seems so concrete, so clear that you’ll never forget it. Who needs to write it down? It’s in my brain forever!

And no matter how many times it happens to me, I still manage to lie to myself and believe I’ll remember it.

I won’t. I need to write it down.

Habits are hard, and so is overestimating ourselves. Like the faith that your memory is a a perfect idea trap.

My memory is not a perfect idea trap. But with any luck, I’ll remember in time for tomorrow.

Who knows.

Anyway, that’s it for me today, have a great Tuesday. And for goodness sake, if you have a fantastic idea, write it down.

#TuesdayThoughts: Erasable.

Standard

First things first, here is my #MomUpdate, “Among the things my mom planted.” And now Tuesday.

It’s another brightly sunny yet mild August day, which is weird for August but I’ll take it. Like yesterday, my workout was excellent and I’m feeling more energetic than I have in a while.

It must be shaking that virus I had last week.

A few months ago, I got a reusable planner/notebook. You can digitize your notes, though I have yet to do that, but the other day I wondered why I haven’t been using it. So I used it for my to dos.

At the end of the day, they all disappeared with a wipe of the dampened special cloth. I think I’m hooked.

Maybe I should put “digitizing notes” on my list for today. OK, done.

The cool thing about it is it doesn’t smudge when you write, and it erases completely. Definitely a way to not waste paper too, especially while doing all the word puzzles. Which is why I got it in the first place.

Anyway, here’s a link for it if you’re curious. Note, it’s an affiliate link, it was easier for me to grab. Should have done that when I was getting everyone to buy Ninja Creamis, I guess. I’d be rolling in dough as well as ice cream. What the heck, here’s one for the Ninja too while I’m at it.

I’m out of control. Must be all the oxygen to the brain with my workout.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Have a wonderful Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Other half of velcro shoes.

Standard

First things first, my #MomUpdate, “I’m human Jenga.” And on to Tuesday.

Everything is frustrating, including the things that are supposed to be easy. I’m irritated and sleep-deprived and I want some things to work out.

Why does that seem like such a huge ask?

Sure, I’m absolutely tickled by the search of Mar-a-Lago, which is second only to my delight at trump’s dismay that the FBI opened his safe.

BUT.

My days lately have been made of velcro and I’m wearing that other half of velcro shoes.

At least I have the thought of bad people having a bad time to comfort me. That does help.

A little.

Meanwhile it’s wildly sunny and pretty cool, especially for August. Believe me, I’ll take it.

And that’s it for me this irksome Tuesday. I hope you have an irk-free day.

#TuesdayThoughts: Counterintuitive to the mission

Standard

Since it’s Tuesday, here’s my #MomUpdate, “Ping pong ball in time.” And now let’s do Tuesday.

You know, I think it’s kind of funny that WordPress went to calling each section of a post a “block.” Because, well…they’re writers’ blocks.

Feels a little counterintuitive to the mission if you ask me. Which you kind of did because you’re here reading this.

Watch out, hypothetical reader, I’m weird today. I guess if we’re being honest, I’m weird every day but again, you kind of know that because you’re here reading this.

I can’t tell if it’s sunny or cloudy today, which feels in many ways apt, and pretty on point for August. I’ve checked, no rain today, but maybe tomorrow.

I’d love a good, crashing thunderstorm. As long as I don’t have to be out in it.

Which is pretty much the key to everything, isn’t it?

Anyway, that’s it for me on this Tuesday. I hope your day is magnificent.

#TuesdayThoughts: Only yours while you’re having them.

Standard

It’s Tuesday, so my #MomUpdate, “The Truth,” is now up if you’re following. Or if you just want to read that one.

And on to Tuesday.

There’s a January 6th Committee hearing starting in a little less than an hour. I’ll be live tweeting again if you’re interested. Today they’ll be talking about the hate groups that call themselves militias, the proud boys, the oathkeepers, who were involved in trump’s apparent plot to overthrow the government.

It should be very interesting.

It’s brightly sunny today, but I don ‘t think it’s too hot. Just green with hints of yellow, much more like August than July, I think. I’m more awake today than yesterday, despite a night of very intense, very detailed dreams.

Well detailed at the time, not now, I barely remember anything from them.

Which seems unfair after putting in all that work. Oh well.

That’s the thing about dreams, they’re really only yours while you’re having them. Anything else is just plain luck of the draw.

Well, that’s it for me this Tuesday as I gear up for the hearing. Have a great day.

#TuesdayThoughts: Without incident.

Standard

Since it’s Tuesday, here is my #MomUpdate: “Always testing the floor.” And now on with Tuesday.

Yesterday, in the type of suburb that embodies imagined American suburbia, a 21-year-old white man* took his handy, legally obtained death machine and murdered six people and injured 38 more at a 4th of July parade. And unlike Jayland Walker who was brutalized to death with bullets by police at a traffic stop in Akron, Ohio, the Highland Park alleged murderer, after being at large for hours, was taken into custody without incident.

Communities along the North Shore, the suburban area north of Chicago, cancelled all their festivities while he was running from law enforcement. Many were on lockdown.

But he was taken without incident.

After killing people in a similar barrage of bullets police used on Jayland Walker.

America.

Now people will talk about the Highland Park “person of interest’s” “mental health.” They’ll talk about what could have driven him to do such a thing, and they’ll tenderly raise the issue of his loneliness or his lack of friends or some other such excuse to make him something else.

He will become a victim of something or another, and we won’t talk about the fact that maybe if he didn’t have friends it was because he was the kind of guy who would allegedly take a weapon of war and murder strangers at a parade.

The problem is guns.

That is the problem. There are disaffected people all over the world; most of them don’t have access to AR 15s or weapons that can fire 60 rounds in a matter of seconds.

And never, ever forget making sure guns get in the hands of murderers has been the unflinching Republican policy for decades. And SCOTUS, packed by Republicans, just made sure it’s harder to regulate them.

Have a productive Tuesday.

*[Earlier version listed the alleged killer’s age as 22; I have corrected with updated information.]
