Opening Night is DAYS Away!

Standard

Well, after a super-late night tech rehearsal — on the heels of the debate (OK fine, yes I was late to rehearsal) — I’m a tad bit draggy today.

And incredulous. We open on Saturday night! All the props have been propped, the actors’ heads crammed full of lines, and “Witch, Please” will start its October run in just a matter of days.

DAYS.

This is not a drill. We’re back on the same stage we’ve used for our last two shows, Donny’s Skybox Theater at the Second City Training Center, and it feels great to be back in the space.

Do I sound giddy? I’m a little giddy.

We’ve got a ton of new material, a few old favorites, and so many laughs all ready to go. Oh, and I did I mention there’s booze?

I usually mention there’s booze.

If you’re in or around Chicago October 1, 8, 22 or 29 at 7 pm we’d love to see you there! Tickets are $13. Come hang out!

Reveal! Sketch Comedy Show Title and Image!

Standard

Well I promised you more on the sketch comedy show for which I’ve been fiendishly making props, and here it is! Me Inside Me’s new show is called “Witch, Please,” and will be running at Donny’s Skybox Theater at the Second City training center in October!

And we’re really excited about this one.

We’ve got our original cast from our first show, and I have to tell you, my co-writers are even funnier than ever, which you wouldn’t think was possible, but there you have it.

As always, there will be booze.

This show is fast-paced, really varied, and this time around, we’re doing music again. And let’s not forget about the props. Obviously the whole show is about the props.

Though the most impressive of the props is being fabricated by someone else, and that sketch alone should be worth the price of admission!

Was that all vague enough for you? Good, then come see the show!

Our Show is Coming! Our Show is Coming!

Standard

Well, you may have seen a post or two about the sketch comedy writing I do…awkwardly, for me, sometimes, but I do…and we have another show opening soon! October 1, in fact, in Donny’s Skybox Theater at Second City, at 7 pm!

We run for 4 weeks, though we have a break on October 15. So our show dates are (everyone get your calendars ready!) October 1, 8, 22, and 29. What’s the title? Where’s the poster?

We all need a little mystery in our lives, don’t we?

So I’ll be revealing those tantalizing details later, but for now, I need to talk about my non-writing task for the show: Props.

Yep, guys. I’m back on props duty, and I think I’m being far too casual about it. Maybe it’s the procrastination side of me, which could, quite possibly, be both sides. Maybe it’s because I might have it under control; I placed a big order on a one-day sale and saved $20, covering a big percentage of what we needed in the process.

And maybe it’s a little bit of that magic “I’ll get it done.” Because I will.

I assume.

Anyway, I’ll be breaking out the hot glue, the cold glue, and the glue that, if it gets on your fingers, you just have to live with your new hand.

Meanwhile, gather your thirteen dollarses, because you’ll be able to buy tickets very soon!

Where I’ve Been or Revenge of the Sketch Comedy

Standard

IMG_8798You might have noticed I’ve been a little absent this week. Or maybe you didn’t notice, in which case feel free to carry on carrying on. Either way, my mind’s been on other writing endeavors.

And the dentist, but that’s over and whew to that.

In any case, we now have dates for our next yet-to-be-titled sketch comedy show! We’ll be running October 1, 8, 22, and 29 (we’re off October 15) in Donny’s Skybox Theater at Second City. And this week is a flurry of putting together the final script, as we start rehearsals next week.

Next week, people. That’s crazy. And we all know October will be here so much faster than it has any right to be.

So I’ve been revising my material, and I have some more revisions to get out. And if there’s anything new — I don’t think I have anything new, but if there is — I’ve got to get it done today.

And that sums me up for the moment. Wearing different writer’s hats can prove pretty challenging, as it requires the abrupt changing of gears, which are sometimes locked in a different position, and sometimes kinda in need of oil.

Meanwhile, if you need a fix, go ahead and grab a free copy of Better Living Through GRAVY and Other Odditieswhich you may enjoy if you liked my recent short story Sell Me Another One.

Otherwise, mark your calendars, because October is coming up fast!

Neurotrash, the Second Week

Standard

Our illustrious director came up with this graphic:

14634140215491679465134

And I just had to share it because I thought it was hilarious. And pretty true. Granted, we’re not Tony Award-winning. But then again, neither is Hamilton.

Yet.

Anyway, our second show went really well, the tweaks were tweaked and it came together really tightly, and our cast killed it, as per the usual. There was no potential food poisoning with the cake on Saturday, as it had been stored in the freezer, and for this Saturday’s performance, we’ll have a new piece.

What kind, you ask?

Whatever is the one that has the hopeful sticker on top with a $1 off coupon saying “We made too much!” The last one was carrot cake. This one? Hmm. I’m thinking something in the vanilla family.

And here’s an interesting little tidbit: for all my friends too far from Chicago to make it to the show, you can stream it! Tickets are $6, but apparently do not count toward our ticket sales, alas. But at least you can see what the fuss is about.

You can also live-stream it on the night of the next performance (Saturday, 10 pm central) if you want to feel like you’re there. You can have even have a drink handy.

You know. Because there’s booze.

So we’re halfway through our run, and the show is only getting hysterical-er. My props are holding up (ish), and we’ve got two more to go!

In or near Chicago? Check out our sketch comedy revue, Me Inside Me Presents: “Neurotrash.” Saturdays at 10 pm, May 7, 14, 21 & 28 in Donny’s Skybox Theater. Tickets $13; Students $11 SCTC Students: $7  Click here for tickets.
