#FridayThoughts: If we look at things that way.

Standard

First up, #TVWatch is back, and this week it’s “Shows I thought I’d hate.” And now Friday.

It was sunny a minute ago, the kind of sunny that makes you think spring is almost here, but now it’s overcast. And cold.

Illusions, but temporary ones.

It’s been a strange week for me, not necessarily bad, only different and sometimes I think if we look at things that way, they’re easier to handle.

Not necessarily bad, only different.

I’ve had a lot of moments, but that’s what life is, really, isn’t it. Still, the reality of losing my mom is settling in, because even when she was ill she was still there.

Just another layer of the varnish of life, I suppose.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week. I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a fantastic weekend.

#FridayThoughts: End of the week.

Standard

First this week’s #TVWatch, “Murder around the world.” And now Friday.

It’s been raining a lot this week, which feels odd for January, but it’s really not the first time we’ve had warmer temperatures this time of year. Still you have to wonder which changes are permanent.

Maybe it’s the swings, like Mother Nature’s very mood is going from one extreme to the other. Who can blame her, after all we’ve done.

This week feels like one with a lot of trying, but not as many results. I suppose that’s going to happen on the way to getting things done, one way or another, and I’m not as frustrated as I could be. I count that as win.

As for the yoga challenge, it’s going. I can’t say I’m enjoying it, really, but I think that’s about my fighting myself to be present. It’s not an easy task for me at the monent.

I’ll try to finish it, just taking each day as it comes. There aren’t that many practices left at this point anyway.

So that’s it for me for this week. I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a lovely weekend.

#FridayThoughts: Wintry

Standard

First, #TVWatch! This week, “What’s wrong with happy?”

And now on to Friday. The image for the TV watch was generated using craiyon.com, the fully free mini version of DALL-E, that AI drawing software. I think I’m having too much fun with the whole AI drawing thing.

Let’s be honest, a human artist could have done far better and likely executed what I had in mind, only through their talent lens which would make what I thought better. But it’s still quirky and amusing, I think.

Much like me, I think.

Anyway, it’s been snowing and raining, though I think more snow than rain. I couldn’t tell you what it’s doing now, but the ground is wet and it looks miserable.

Which is fitting.

We’re all the way at Friday again, somehow, in a year that is rapidly sliding away. I will never get used to it.

And then it will be next year.

Time’s a jerk.

Anyway that’s it for me this week, have an amazing Friday and the best weekend.

#FridayThoughts: Week wind up.

Standard

First, since it’s Friday, #TVWatch with me! This week, “You may have missed this guaranteed smiler!”

And now Friday.

I drink a lot of flavored sparkling water, so I finally, finally got a SodaStream. I’m not entirely sold yet.

We’ll see.

The crux for me is trying to figure out a way of adding flavor without always using fruit juice. The flavors you can buy are too much of a risk for me with migraines, you just never know if they will be OK, and you don’t know for sure what’s in them.

Time will tell. I have an experiment underway.

It is convenient, though, and far, far less waste.

I can’t tell you what the weather is today, it’s been completely sunny and completely overcast several times over already. Not sure where it’s going to land up.

Like so many things.

I’m trying to skate through the rest of the day, this week has really proven exhausting on all levels. I’m hoping for a restful weekend.

I hope you also have a restful weekend. And a great Friday. To the veterans who have protected us at great risk to themselves, we thank you.

#FridayThoughts: Evolution at internet speeds.

Standard

It’s Friday, so first it’s #TVWatch, “Sci-fi silliness.” And on to Friday.

It’s another brightly sunny day today, and while yesterday was a bit of a rough one, I’m hoping today is a little smoother. But who knows.

The only way to see is to see.

That goes for Twitter too, which apparently is now under the ownership of elon musk, who is planning on taking the company private. Hmm.

But these social media giants come and go, and no doubt another will be along shortly to take its place. It’s evolution at internet speeds.

Besides, there’s not a thing we can do about it, so worrying about it won’t change anything. It is, as they say, what it is.

So that’s where I am this Friday, um, afternoon I guess I have to say if I’m going to write with any honesty. Feeling a downward slide but I’ll try to prevent it.

Maybe you can do the same.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

#FridayThoughts: I’m here.

Standard

First my Friday #TVWatch, “Television as comfort food.” It’s a little different this week, for obvious reasons.

In case you missed the news, after a long, horrible, protracted illness, my mom passed away on Saturday. This week was was a blur leading up to the arrangements. Wednesday was the day. Yesterday I allowed myself the luxury of doing nothing, outside of seeking good shows to watch.

So I’m pretty late, it’s been a spotty posting week, but I’m here.

I’m here.

There’s much still to process, and much to think about. What I’ll write about on Tuesdays at Medium, for example, as the habit has come to suit me.

There is a lot ahead and a lot behind and I suppose that is the truth about life.

I will not linger today, and we’ll see what next week is like, I am trying to follow the advice of being kind to myself. It’s not always easy.

So you give it a shot too, and we’ll reconvene next week. Have a great weekend.

#FridayThoughts: Long distance.

Standard

First, since it’s Friday, you get to TV Watch with me! This week: “‘Kevin Can F Himself’ INDEED.” I loved that show.

It’s Friday, and the weather has no idea what is going on. It was raining but now it’s sunny as though it wasn’t. Make up your mind, weather.

But it’s chilly, no question that it’s Fall. If I had questions.

The Chicago Marathon is this Sunday, and while seeing it is cool, it snarls the traffic throughout the city, making getting across a challenge. Not always a problem but one to solve to get anywhere.

I don’t know if I’ll go out to watch. No one will be wearing masks and I have to be so careful because of my mom.

COVID has taken the fun out of so many things. And it’s not just COVID but all bugs, anything could be a problem. And the colds are back. They are vicious.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week, I hope you have a tremendous Friday and a very relaxing weekend!

#FridayThoughts: Shining in its own unique way.

Standard

Since it’s Friday, I have TV offerings for you–THREE today!–in my TV Watch “Trip around the world.” And now Friday.

It’s the end of September, the literal end, and it’s sunny and cool. These ae the days we appreciate in Chicago, mild weather and the nature everywhere in the city shining in its own unique way.

Like one of those flipbooks that animates the characters when you riffle the pages, I’ve wondered at the ending of months here this year, every single one coming somehow as a surprise to me.

Time has become fluid and mushy and fast-flowing.

Maybe I shouldn’t find that remarkable anymore, but I do.

I’m still having weird, intense dreams, I couldn’t even share them if I tried, I just know when I wake up, it’s from somewhere very far away. And I’m more tired than refreshed.

Which happens.

I need to go to bed earlier, but that’s a common refrain, isn’t it? I’ll try it. We’ll see.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week, have an incredible Friday and a fun and relaxing weekend!

#FridayThoughts: Between Monday and Friday.

Standard

It’s Friday, so here is the link to my TV Watch, “Booted for ‘Reboot,'” if you’re interested. It wasn’t the show I said I’d be writing about on Monday.

Isn’t that the thing about weeks?

Between Monday and Friday, your whole perspective can change, your plans can change, your intentions can change. I was set to write about a different show entirely, and then I watched something else.

And it inspired me.

With creative pursuits, you’ve got to grab your inspiration when it comes. It’s a fickle, fleeting thing.

It’s OK to be flexible. It’s OK to change your point of view. It’s not good to be rigid in all things. That’s how you break.

Besides, with all that’s been going on with my mom, the ups and downs and ups and downs, levity was the better focus.

And that’s OK too. You’ve got to take care of yourself. It’s OK to point your energy at you.

With that I will bid you a wonderful Friday and an amazing weekend.

#FridayThoughts: Royally over it.

Standard

It’s FRIDAY which means TV suggestions with my TV Watch series! This week: “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.”

And now on to Friday.

It’s sunny and mild, and it’s hard to believe it’s Friday again, though I feel like I say that a lot these days. And yet it is.

Queen Elizabeth died yesterday, at the age of 96, and it brought out a lot of things on the internet. The truth is the scars of colonialism remain open.

And there is probably no greater symbolic tribute to white supremacy than the continued existence of a monarchy in a country with an elected government. They serve two functions: reminders of the past and a draw to tourists.

You don’t even need the people for the tourism, the buildings and the jewelry and the furnishings will suffice. At Kensington Palace I couldn’t care less if William or Kate were there. I visited the royal yacht in Edinburgh and I had no hopes of seeing any actual family members. Not even the ghost of Princess Diana on her doomed honeymoon of her doomed marriage to a man who never gave up the mistress who is now the Queen Consort.

I think Meghan and Harry were a means for the monarchy to enter the 21st century with grace and morph into something useful, given they’re both actually committed to charitable works, but apparently the royal family wasn’t having it. Instead it kept Andrew.

So my opinion of the monarchy isn’t high. As an American perhaps it shouldn’t be anyway. And I am sorry for the loss of the person Elizabeth, who seemed to meet her beloved dogs on a literal rainbow bridge yesterday. But I have no good feelings for the institution of the Queen.

And with that, I wish you a happy Friday and a great weekend. Enjoy She-Hulk if you try it!
