#MondayThoughts: Weeking on

Standard

I can’t say that my attempt to keep it light last week was entirely successful. It’s tiring, this new way of life, and honestly, I’m tired of it. And that’s the entire truth.

If I could be more upbeat, I would, but it’s been a long time of this, and there are so many people trying to make it worse, perhaps hoping to increase the spread. Who knew so many people wish they could kill other people?

So many.

It’s gray again today, though it could get sunny any moment, it’s been doing that, bright and dark, dark and bright. My head doesn’t like it at all.

At some point, people will ask what it was like when nearly 70,000 Americans died in two months and the government tried to make it worse at every turn, seizing equipment and tests, insisting people offer themselves as human sacrifices for the economy.

And the answer is it was ghoulishly normal, one day bleeding into the next, the dishes still getting done, laundry folded and put away, too much time in front of the television and opining on social media.

It is slow and it is fast and it is, above all else, excruciating.

That’s it for me for today, have as great a Monday as you can, and if it’s not a great Monday, that’s OK too.

#MondayThoughts: It’s Monday

Standard

Can it be sunny and gloomy? Or maybe outside is sunny and I’m gloomy. People deliberately trying to spread a deadly virus will do that to you.

Although I saw a great Twitter thread about our current stress response, so I’m going to embed the first tweet right here. I know it’s not just me, and now you know it’s not just you.

I’ve seen a lot of birds flying past the windows lately, I think they’re wondering where we’ve all gone, we of the endless supplies of food. Someone told me last night that the rats are dying in the city, because all their usual buffets, especially the restaurants, have dried up.

It’s weird, but I feel a little sorry for the rats.

But onward we march, largely by not marching, as we wait for the numbers to increase again due to these “protests.” Or pro-death demonstrations. From coronavirus enthusiasts.

I usually like to start a Monday off a little more positively, but the apocalypse makes it a challenge. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, as Scarlett O’Hara once famously fictionally said. Have a great Monday and give yourself a break.

#FridayThoughts: Snow in April

Standard

It’s snowing. It’s not quite covering the ground, but there are white patches, and it seems the snow is just blithely carrying on. It definitely makes going outside far less tempting.

It’s another week of shelter in place in the books, and I think everyone is starting to wear. The truth is that we will need a new, odd kind of fortitude to see this thing through, and to see it through losing as few people as possible.

At least the weather is on board.

My coffee is cold. I shall return.

Ahh, that’s better.

Interestingly, I haven’t hit boredom, at least not yet. I wonder what happen when we run out of things to watch. That will be a dark day.

Anyway, I hope your Friday is as filled with as much joy as is possible, especially if your birthday is coming up, and that’s aimed at one specific person who may or may not see this, but if it’s true for you too, if nothing else, it will be a memorable birthday.

Have a good weekend.

#TuesdayThoughts: Not saved by the bell

Standard

It’s one of those days when I just don’t have a lot to say. Rare, I know. You’d think wordy was my middle name.

Not today.

Today bright skies gave way to clouds, and it seems the drilling I thought would dominate my day has given way to them too. It’s quiet again, but that’s no surprise, given the circumstances.

I made chocolate chip cookies on Sunday and I’ve been eating them nearly constantly, it feels, and I’m not sure when the last time was I ate a vegetable whose name wasn’t “potato.”

Well, I did have tomatoes, canned, but tomatoes, and those are a fruit so I guess that statement still stands. I’ve got to get my eating together.

I’m doing that today. Although it’s already too late on the cookies, but seriously it’s the apocalypse.

Anyway, I’m going to launch myself into Tuesday. I hope you have a lovely one, whatever that means for you now.

#MondayThoughts: Trudging

Standard

It’s another gray day here, low, dull clouds, not a lot of birds flitting. Maybe it’s going to rain.

Who knows.

It’s been a long stretch of shelter-in-place, and as itchy as I am for it to end, I wonder how long until it’s safe, actually safe, genuinely safe. We are reminded of the Spanish flu, which did some damage the first winter, but then devastated the next fall.

We don’t want that.

As they work on vaccines, and we hang in, hang in, hang in, I marvel at an incompetence so vast, so all-encompassing, it cannot be accidental. And still he pushes to make it worse.

And that is Monday in a pandemic.

I am pithless today, and need to make some masks for errands I’ll have this week, so I will go work on that. And I hope you have as good and as productive a Monday as you can.

#TuesdayThoughts: Adjusting

Standard

It’s interesting how we adjust to this new way of existing, of this no longer doing everything we want exactly when we want it, or finding everything we need when we need it.

How we adjust to staying home.

The noises have changed too, and it’s only just now I’ve noticed that they’re not doing the work they’ve been doing the last few days. The traffic is quiet, nearly not there at all. I know that all around me, neighbors are home, but they too are quiet.

I like the quiet,

It’s sunny today, bright and warm, and the grass is starting to shine a bright, new green. But I cannot smell it, though if I think about it hard enough I can, I cannot get near it, the parks are still closed. Soon we’ll be missing the crab apple blooms.

I wonder if the birds who fly through in the spring are here.

I’m not stir-crazy, it’s not that exactly, but I miss breathing in nature.

Well, anyway, I hope your Tuesday is peaceful and productive.

#FridayThoughts: Not panicking

Standard

I swear. I’m not panicking.

I’m kind of panicking.

We are in the midst of a crisis that requires leadership, and we don’t have any where it counts. Thank goodness for the House; thank goodness for state and local governments where sense prevails.

Thank goodness I foresaw a run on toilet paper.

Also, I burned my hand in the most inconvenient way and I’m starting to think that the universe itself is tired of us, and is trying to shake us off.

Or out.

I don’t know how universes work.

So we are where we are, and all we can do is the best we can to protect ourselves and others. Follow the precautions we have; be considerate; take the threat seriously even if you are not among the most threatened.

Compassion would be a good thing now.

You have a good Friday and a restful weekend.

#MondayThoughts: Must we?

Standard

Not very inspiring for a Monday, I guess. Maybe because I’m not feeling very inspired. I’m pretty sure I’m the first person in the history of Mondays to feel this way on a Monday.

Just kidding.

See, I can be sluggish and funny. Ish.

The only word I could think of to describe how I feel today was “molasses,” and so I turned to my thesaurus and realized how often you have to think of a synonym to find the synonyms. Ponder that for a while.

Or as long as you want, this is a space for free thought.

And now there is a drill of some sort going, a high-pitched drill competing with sirens outside and it’s pretty clear that whatever this Monday may be, it’s going to be loud. That ought to wake me up.

So as I try to unstick myself and venture off into the Mondayness of Monday, I hope you have a lovely Monday yourself.

#TuesdayThoughts: Tuesday your Tuesday

Standard

Still in Grayville over here. Looks warmer, though; most of the snow is gone, patches of a color more green than it should be in January now bigger than the white ones.

I’m drinking my coffee but not drinking it enough, I think, I’m still woolly-headed and my alarm sliced through the very middle of a dream.

A busy dream.

Busy with what, I don’t know. I also don’t know why I can’t just have dreams that involve sitting quietly somewhere pleasant. That seems relaxing.

Editing went not too terribly yesterday, though it did highlight how many problems I have earlier in the manuscript. But that’s what getting your hands dirty, getting up to your elbows in the muck of the mess of the manuscript, is all about.

Or so I tell myself. For me, it’s the hardest part.

Anyway, I’m going to Tuesday my own Tuesday, and you have a terrific one yourself.

#AccountaClub Friday, September 27, 2019

Standard

Behind today, I was waylaid by a tweet that has generated a bunch of responses, some of them thoughtful, some of them abusive, some of them just plain propaganda. And again.

I need to focus on us here. Hi.

So not much writing done this week unless you count tweets, though I did make a joke that got a good reception and no mean comments so I feel like that’s an accomplishment.

Fitness, five days, five workouts but I was really draggy this week. Even today the trainer was one of my favorites and it was one of my favorite types of workout. It flew by but it was a struggle.

I may have a cold but I feel like I’m fighting it off.

Meanwhile it’s thunderstormy and I love it.

So that’s me. How was your week?
