It’s a rainy, gray day, and I’ve already got a fall chill. Too early for the heat, so layers it is.
And so we adapt.
Yesterday I talked about getting a new comforter; today I decided what I want is a down-alternative comforter and some duvet covers that I can change when the mood strikes. Less commitment.
More whimsy.
Though honestly I’m going to have to rein in the whimsy, it’s getting a little out of control and trending toward aggressive, and as anyone knows, aggressively whimsical is how many horror movies start.
We don’t want that.
All it took was looking at the situation from a slightly different angle. Instead of trying to find the perfect comforter, “perfect” is swapped out because it’s all modifiable. A tiny head tilt is all it took.
Sometimes the corners in which we think we’ve found ourselves are not true corners at all. Sometimes, if we slide our gaze away from the spot where the two walls meet, even for only a moment, even if only slightly, we can see a door or a window or an ominous crack which, if Doctor Who is any guide, maybe we should try to use as an exit.
That last one wasn’t the best example.
We all are bobbing along this river called life, and no matter how clear the stretch of river ahead looks, there will be a bend. And for some of us, it’s not clear at all but full of prickly branches and rocks and other river stuff.
But we also get a bend. And we have no idea what we might find when we get around it.
The river moves on, with or without us. Water is changeable, with or without us, and so are the things it picks up along the way. There is no perfect for water.
There is only flow.
Have a wonderful Tuesday.
