First a major thank you to Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a glass-ceiling crasher, a fierce advocate for the oppressed, a role-model to millions. She dedicated her life in service to our nation and our Constitution.
And a major shhh no one cares what you think to the people talking about her age. It is a privilege to get old, not everyone does, and you will too, only if you’re lucky.
It’s been a week for me, starting with Yom Kippur, and with a Wednesday stop in the ER with my dad. He’s OK, they released him within hours (he had a pain in his leg that wasn’t going away) but all the worry and anxiety I tried to shed piled on me tenfold.
We didn’t go to the hospital where I went when I had that inexplicable back pain episode in May, which I’m still working through, and where my mom went when she had her stroke. I knew I wouldn’t trust what they said, whatever they said.
We went to one of the major university hospitals instead. The doctor was really great, she was thorough, efficient, and highly competent.
But I am still worried.
I guess the universe has decided that my baseline should be “highly anxious.”
You’d think there wouldn’t be much room to go from there but it turns out, there really, really is.
It’s not a fun thing to know.
Ugh.
But all we can do is forge ahead, best we can. If you notice a sharper edge to me than normal (not that I don’t have my edges) my patience is something so far downriver I can’t even see it bobbing in the water anymore.
