It’s a sunny Friday and the first anniversary of my mom’s death looms large. We also have the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, to complicate matters, and for half of Sunday or a little more, most of the city is impassible.
I used to love watching the marathon.
I used to love October.
This has been a week of not much to say, not much to focus on aside from existing, from getting through this oppressive stretch. They say the first one is the hardest and maybe that’s true.
And after my mom’s anniversary, it’s just a few weeks until my brother’s, bookends to a month which used to mean, for me, perfect, crisp temperatures and rainbowed leaves.
Oh well.
There’s nothing to be done but take that slow stroll with time, time quick to point out all the better-forgotten sights along the way. The most dogged and least considerate tour guide ever.
Anyway, that’s it for me for this week, I hope you have an amazing Friday and an incredible weekend, and if you’re running in the marathon, best of luck, you can do it!
