It’s Thursday again, and it’s foggy again, somehow, that same heavy, thick fog that lasted for about a week last time. Perhaps this one will be more fleeting.

I’ve been dealing with the deep annoyances of life in an unfettered capitalist system, and escaping into a very funny, very enjoyable Kdrama called “Sh**ting Stars.” Doesn’t solve the capitalism issues, though, which, in my case, come in the form of drug prices.

Pres. Biden is trying to address that, but he can only do it if we give him another term. Should somehow the guy under 91 criminal indictments who had to be pried out of the White House the first time get in, those prices will be the least of our worries.

Somehow I feel like people do not understand that. Somehow I think people have forgotten how horrible and frightening every single day was. Here in Chicago, a city he threatened to “invade,” I would wonder about the occasional sight and sound of military planes and helicopters, at loud outside noises.

Why would anyone want to go back to that? To empty grocery shelves, to using military to quell protests, to the constant question of whether the Constitution would survive.

I’ll tell you now if he and republicans–and yes, ALL REPUBLICANS–get another crack at it, it won’t. They keep saying so aloud.

I find it flabbergasting that anyone would vote for him at all, and I wonder about those people. Are they overall not very smart, unable to draw conclusions, unable to understand what he actually says?

Are there just that many unmitigatedly horrible people, people with not one redeeming quality? Because make no mistake, if you support a guy who separated families, let people die in a preventable pandemic, has vowed use the government for revenge, says he can kill a political opponent without consequence, who wants to go back to banning people based on religion, who did unspeakable things to migrants in detention facilities the last time, who made toddlers represent themselves in court, who has been adjudicated a sexual abuser, you are a terrible person.

Not just a bad person.

A terrible person, no matter what God you think can redeem you.

And if you think you will be safe, you will be immune, well you should ask all the people who thought that the first time, who dutifully refused to follow pandemic protocols because he told them not to. Only you can’t because they’re largely dead.

Like Hermain Cain, who died and they didn’t even care. Gave his life for those people and in the end they treated him like he was nothing, a disposable prop.

You need to not tune out. You need to not retreat into fantasies of normality, because they will not save you. The only thing that can save us now is voting.

Have a thoughtful Thursday.
