It’s another day of blahness, the sky is blah, the weather is chilly blah, I am blah. I’m also sneezy.

Playing “cold or allergies” roulette.

Not my favorite game.

Yesterday I punted when it came to this blog, and here it is today and I supposed I can’t just kick it down the road to tomorrow. I mean I could, but then tomorrow will show up and and here we’ll be again. Time to pick up the ball and run, which I guess means I am playing both sides of this metaphor so…

Seems hectic.

I’ve been thinking today about how we are who we are, wherever we may be, whenever we may be. I’m not talking about ideas or beliefs which can change over time or with more information, but the very core of us.

The basic underlying human in us. And as I write this, I am realizing this is a real “don’t look down” situation, because the more I tried to define what I meant the less I started to know what I meant. Or rather the less I was able to quantify it.

Beneath the trappings of identifiers, or maybe in a full amalgamation of identifiers, there is a core to us that doesn’t seem to vary much, from the time we can remember all the way around to the next time we can’t remember.

Some people are very comfortable with that core, they know it, they accept it, and they are surrounded by people who know and accept it, even enjoy it. Others of us may have an uneasy relationship with it, a teetertotter of acceptance and attempts to carve something else out of the uncarvable.

And still others of us may reject that core completely, bury it under a laundry pile of other things, throw in an unreachable well, try to pretend it doesn’t exist and never existed.

But it always surfaces, that core, and in many ways it puts life on a loop. Sometimes you can even see the repeat coming but the core does not bend, it does not sway. It remains.

The only thing to do, I suppose, is not fight the core. The core will be there, regardless. Adorn the core with knowledge; with the twinkling lights of new experiences, whether real or borrowed through fiction; dress it up in ways of understanding that other people are also doing the same.

And with that, I wish you a lovely Thursday.
