It’s gloomy this morning and we’re supposed to have rain but that doesn’t always mean rain, so we’ll see where it all lands. This morning trump was given what feels like a 49,025,923,904,209,852th chance, and for those of us who doesn’t always see a second it feels like he was right about rigging.

Just not in the way he meant it.

And I said “feels like” because it doesn’t mean anything is rigged, the system is as it always was, and justice never gets meted out with definitive musical stinger in real life.

And I’m not going to sit here and pretend I’m not also disappointed, or that I didn’t start writing this sentence with an audible sigh. It’s frustrating to watch him slither out of consequence after consequence. It’s beyond frustrating to know that most people in the justice system don’t even get a tenth of the consideration he’s getting.

That some people don’t even make it to the justice system at all, because their “punishments” come without due process of law.

So he gets another ten days to come up with a fraction of the fines but at least in his hush money case, things are moving along.

At least.

At least.

We all might need a little bit of a moment to digest, dispense with and keep moving from the feelings this additional chance has fostered. And with a perspective that keeps an eye on that ultimate step: a Supreme Court hand-packed by him.

And another sigh.

I really wanted to circle us around and back to focusing on what we can do, what we do have power over, and that’s voting. That’s getting everyone we know to vote, and that’s aiming for Democratic majorities large enough to undo republicans’ unwavering attacks on the Constitution.

Because the power of the government truly belongs to us. And the only people we can put in positions of authority who will not try to change that fundamental fact of the structure of our government are Democrats.

So let’s leave trump’s problems to trump, with the understanding that he is the revolting human embodiment of everything that is wrong with republicans. He is republicanism in human(like?) form.

And $175 million is still a lot of money.

And with that, I wish you a great Monday.
