It’s Monday and eclipse day, and though they said we’d have clouds in the morning, the sky is clear. We’ll see if it stays that way.
We only have partial coverage today, but it’s pretty high, almost 95%, though I don’t have glasses. Still I may make a box for viewing or just use two pieces of white cardstock (like index cards) with a pinhole in one. And there are a bunch of places to stream the eclipse as well.
And it turns out I’m going to need another cup of coffee if we’re going to continue this chat, so if you’ll excuse me for a moment I I’ll be back.
Well, it’s brewing at least. So that’s a start.
This morning I saw someone shaking their finger at people who were enjoying the anticipation of the eclipse, looking forward to it, chattering away about it. And sometimes I just have to ask…
Why?
What does it matter if other people are enjoying something you don’t enjoy?
The only wet blanket today should be the moon. Always trying to dim the sun’s glow or bask in it.
No wait, I’m sorry moon, you’re cool.
There’s a phrase about “not yucking someone else’s yum,” and it’s very apt. If you don’t like something that isn’t harmful to others, it doesn’t hurt anyone, why try to take the fun or enjoyment out of it for the people who do?
If you find yourself doing that, maybe ask yourself why. Is it that other people’s happiness over small things bugs you enough to try to take it away? Is it that you think you should be in charge of what people like?
It’s a mystery.
It’s fine to say you don’t like something, I think the line appears when you say other people shouldn’t like something that is harmless. For example, I LOATHED Mr. Robot but that doesn’t mean I’ll chastise you for liking it.
Maybe a little.
Just kidding. Kind of. I really hated that show.
Point is this is a rare natural even a lot of people are excited to enjoy in a time where every small thing seems to be fraught. So let’s just enjoy it.
Or not if that’s your preference, and that’s fine too, everyone can make their own choices.
And with that, I wish you a happy Monday and a wonderful eclipse, if you’re watching.
