(AI generated image of American flags and red white and blue balloons and confetti.) It’s sort of a gray day today, and yet what I’m feeling in the air is excitement. From all quarters.
A friend with a politically-active teen who is currently interning for local Democrats says she’s hearing from her kid that young people love VP Harris. My dad made plans with a 92 (!) year old friend of his, and he, too, was excited.
A neighbor of his is also thrilled; so is a sort of relative who is Gen Xish I didn’t know was into politics.
EVERYONE.
Other people have said and I agree there’s a crackle of energy we haven’t felt since Senator Barack Obama made his bid to be President Barack Obama.
We are revitalized, we are unified, and we are mobilizing.
Most of us are still sad for Pres. Biden, sad that he was treated so abhorrently by the media, celebrities and apparently other Democrats, though I now I’m somewhat certain those Democrats were privy to this plan long before we were. But if this stepping down means we won’t literally work one of the most honorable men ever to serve this country to death, I think we can all make our peace with it.
To watch everyone get behind VP Harris, giving her more than enough delegates to be the nominee in just over a day is awe-inspiring To see the money pour in, even more so.
To hear the big donors still making demands, much less so. Frankly I hope that we, as the base, can more than cover what they want to use to coerce an agenda we don’t want. We didn’t want to lose Pres. Biden, for a start, but we’re here now and so happy to have VP Harris as our presumptive nominee.
The mood has changed dramatically, from constant worry and unknowing to real joy. Let’s ride that into November and make this happen. Now we want to know who she will select as her running mate.
No, it will not be a Republican. It will never be a Republican. I find the very suggestion gross and coercive.
Have a great Tuesday.
