(AI generated image of a hand carrying a lighted torch, blurred crowd behind.)

Well, you may have noticed things look a little different around here. Yesterday, riding the rails of rolling with changes, I thought I’d check out some new themes for the blog, hit “save” and the whole thing went live. Before I had time to really think about it.

The look is cleaner and less cozy than it was, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. There are likely more tweaks to come, I’m not sure I’m entirely sold but progress happens like that sometimes, with or without us.

Stay tuned.

It’s a sunny day today, and I’m still a melancholy over Pres. Biden’s speech last night. While my heart still believes he would have led us to victory again, and, though getting older, as we all are, he could have persevered, my mind reminds me that he deserves to preserve his health for as long as he’s able, enjoy his family for as long as he’s able. He’s given his whole life to public service.

And of course, we are excited about VP Harris, I saw that Vote.org showed an increase of registrations by 700% since Pres. Biden endorsed her. I said on Spoutible last night that Pres. Biden was the grownup whose hand we needed to hold as we left the wreckage of trump.

And now the fight is up to us.

I’ve already seen the racism and misogyny starting, the use of “DEI” as a substitution for the N-word.

But we are not the people we were in 2015. We are not the nation we were in 2015. We have seen where narcissism and glorified greed can take us, and it’s a looming and frightening place.

We know that Project 2025 waits to make what trump did and far more permanent. VP Harris says it best:

Pres. Biden did pass the torch last night, but not just to his capable, extraordinary vice president.

He passed it to us as well, we too are the keepers of that delicate flame of democracy. Every single one of us, as quiet as we think our voices may be, can join together and unleash a roar the volume of which this country has never seen, the cohesion of which this country has never seen, the sheer diversity of which this country has never seen.

I voted for Pres. Biden in the primary and he was the candidate I wanted to vote for in November, but now I am thrilled to cast my vote for the MVP.

New frontiers appear in front of us all the time, all the way from unexpected blog themes to changing presidential candidates. We can meet them while clinging to what was and what is gone or we can take a deep breath, grab our gear and take them on with a frontier spirit.

Have a great Thursday.
