(Medieval looking gateway with different color lights, not what I was going for but whatever).
It’s gray and probably rainy, maybe not yet but it looks inevitable. Yesterday I unveiled #ImpromptuPrompt, and I think it’s a hit, so we’ll likely see it again in the future.
I haven’t finished mine yet, but there are no time limits so it will be done when it is done. Ahh the freedom of freedom.
My state of blah has not yet resolved or retreated, and my feelings about, well, everything right now are…complicated.
It’s difficult to believe there could be such a dichotomy–though not an evenly-split one, no matter what media would have you believe–between people who want a bright future future and people who want to drag us back into the very worst of the past. How can both be present in the same point in time?
This morning I saw an article about so-called “tradwife” women who volunteer to be subjugated by a man for reasons I cannot discern, who suffer pain that does not need to be felt in the 21st century, who do chores in ways that they do not need to be done in the 21st century. This woman milled her own flour.
Milled.
Her own.
Flour.
But she realized while doing laundry, if I recall correctly, probably by beating it against a rock, I imagine, that she didn’t want her daughters to suffer the same fate.
No kidding.
Women have fought and died for these exact same battles, and then, as if no one can be taken at their word, off more blithely go to get a taste of chattlehood.
Look, people can live how they want but let’s be honest, these situations are always borne of control, of dehumanization. Unless you are an artisan or a historical reenactor, really, there is no need to mill your own flour.
And I thought about this in the context of Vice President Harris’ candidacy, that the US is far behind many other countries when it comes to having women occupy the head chair. I’m so glad for the energy and excitement and momentum, but I’m tired of the question “Is America ready?”
Who the hell cares?
Progress is not something for which we need to beg permission, and to voluntarily relinquish it, well, I can’t wrap my brain around that.
We are here in the future, let us live that way, act that way and believe that way.
Have a great Wednesday.
