(A magnifying glass over what looks like an old newspaper and a picture of a man who looks like a fascist)
It’s sunny though I think it was stormy early this morning, and so wildly, wildly humid. We’ve moved on from a stunned media to one trying to find ways to tear apart and derail the Harris campaign, and frankly, it’s nauseating.
As we wait for the VP announcement, a person who, no matter who they are, will be deemed a “bad” choice, I find myself wondering, not for the first time, what media thinks happens to media in an authoritarian regime.
Perhaps they should review the horrendous, horrifying case of Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, one which trump bragged about helping the crown prince evade responsibility for. Put that together with trump’s very open statements about his plans, like people not having to vote again, and that’s math anyone can do.
Yet here we are again on the Fascism-Go-Round.
We can all come up with a million imagined reasons for the constant degradation and undermining of Democrats and democratic ideals in media, but really, in the end, the motivations, the “why” doesn’t actually matter.
The “why” is a red herring.
What does matter is recognizing that that’s what they do.
What does matter is pointing out that that’s what they do.
What does matter is discussing it with others, so they too see the slant and don’t take the stories at face value.
What matters is not clicking on the stories.
The more you click, the more they post. They don’t care if it makes you mad, anger is still a reaction. They don’t care if your comments are positive on an article; it’s just more views.
Reaching out to editorial can help more so, but who knows how much, given that most media is now owned by corporations who are, in turn, owned by super greedy, super awful people who are “conservative.”
The “both sidesing’ is actually asymmetrical, but perhaps if we keep talking about that, about the bias against democracy, they’ll tip back the other way.
I doubt it, but it’s worth a try.
Anyway, that’s it for me today, have a great and thoughtful Monday.
