It’s sunny and supposed to be incredibly hot, perhaps followed by thunderstorms. Hmm, now they are saying definitely thunderstorms. We’ll see.

I’ve still got a holiday hangover, though not the alcoholic kind, but the what a great place kind. If you missed it yesterday, I was in Newfoundland last week and it was fantastic. And now I’m back home in Chicago which is also fantastic but not the same fantastic and no matter how great the place you live is, it’s still the place you live.

Sigh.

But if vacations lasted forever they wouldn’t be vacations, I guess.

We did have plane issues, which seems to be the norm these days. Am I imagining it or did there used to be a time when you had a flight and then you went on that flight and it departed around the time it was supposed to and then when it was time to come home you also had a flight that did the same thing?

There’s a different feel post-COVID, I think, where basically everything that shut down during the pandemic is kind of hands-in-the-air whatever about things. Cutbacks meant to ride out the storm have become the norm.

We can chalk that up to never-ending greed, which, you probably know by now is what I think is the problem behind everything, or the “root of all evil” if you will.

Oh yes, sure, I just came up with that all on my own on the fly.

And least that thought departed on time.

Still, I’ve been especially lucky this year to see more than one new corner of this planet, to meet fresh new people, to see fresh new things.

To watch fresh, new clouds go by.

Well maybe they aren’t entirely new, the water cycle and all that stuff, you know what I mean, probably. Or maybe not. Maybe I haven’t had enough coffee.

So I will slog through the heat, even with the air running (not my favorite but necessary) and try to ground myself back here, back where I am, though I will keep with me the inspiration of the landscapes, the people, the new art being made.

It doesn’t have to be so dramatic, either, for you to do the same; sometimes an afternoon just a few towns over can do the trick; a show in another language with sweeping views; a trip to a museum.

And with that, I wish you a wonderful Tuesday (or whatever day it might be when you read this if you haven’t gotten to it today! Or the day it was written. I told you I need more coffee).

Buy me a cup of coffee!
