There’s a roll of clouds on the horizon that look like a tidal wave this morning. Feels ominous, though we’re not supposed to get anything more than more cold and strong winds.
We’ll see.
First things first, thank you so much for the coffee, Carmen! You must have felt me thinking about you, because just the other day I realized I hadn’t seen you as frequently as normal, I hope all is well. I so appreciate getting to share some words along with it with you! Glad to see you!
And on with Tuesday which will be an abrupt switch, because that bitter pill I talked about yesterday, I seem to have choked it down. I am absolutely to the brim with bitterness today.
Buyer beware.
In South Korea, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law, claiming members of the Korean parliament in the opposition party were siding with North Korea. It effectively means he’s seized control of the country–which has a Constitution, by the way–through use of the military.
You may or may not have seen the escalating trading of balloons and leaflets in recent months, and the increased threats from North Korea, but in all it’s not a move that makes a volatile world feel any more stable.
The declaration, by the way, was condemned even by Pres. Yoon’s own party.
As this just happened hours ago, we’ve yet to see how it may unfold. My hope?
It will be brief.
Donald is a sink weight made entirely of chaos, throwing ripples as high as tsunamis everywhere a wave can go. It’s hard to imagine the election had no bearing, at least in some part, in an incredibly bold decision to seize power. Like it’s a global moment for tyrants.
And a lot of people are apparently fine with that.
I’ve seen theories about how various branches of humans didn’t go extinct, not really, but they were simply absorbed, leading to the humans scattered far and wide around the globe today. But in crossroads of history like the one in which we find ourselves, I start to wonder how different they all really were.
Is this obsessive greed and cruelty down to a specific set of genes lurking in ancient DNA? Is it as inescapable as humanity itself, completely integrated, completely immovable?
Do I still, on some level, wish it wasn’t simply a choice?
That every single person who arrives on this earth can be absolutely any single way, and yet so many people choose to revel in the worst that humanity can offer? So many people choose the obsessive greed, so many people choose the cruelty?
Frankly, writing it out, I don’t know which would be better. There are always excuses for why people are the way they are, but very few solutions to change it.
I warned you I was bitter today.
We can hope for the best, but hope is a liar sometimes. Hope is a false light in the night; hope draws illusions and snatches them away.
And yet.
Still we hope.
I hope the resolution in South Korea is swift, and I hope our country rides out our own waves intact. My thoughts are with the people of Korea, may everyone remain safe and may it be resolved quickly.
Have a great Tuesday.
