It’s a gray day, Christmas Eve for the people who celebrate it, but it’s too warm to snow. The best anyone could hope for at this rate is a wet Christmas.
Somehow doesn’t sound as picturesque.
I feel like we previously held our breath for four years, got a chance to rest and breathe, and now we’re going under again. Too bad we couldn’t evolve gills in the meanwhile.
Though maybe we did.
Maybe we just have to test them.
I guess we’ll see.
Anyway those are waters I don’t want to wade too deeply into today, I think what is best is carving out a little space where we can find some joys, big joys, small joys.
Maybe stream a fun show or a great movie or a movie so terrible it’s great. Maybe have a sweet treat or an excellent meal. Maybe craft unabashedly, not for an end product but for fun.
Play with makeup if that’s your thing. Play with fashion if that’s your thing. Create, destroy (for yourself, not to harm others), try something new, cozy into something old.
Take care of yourself in whatever ways get right into your soul, and do it without reservation. Not only is it OK, it’s necessary.
There will be plenty of time for strength and resilience and empathy and action. Now is the time for sweats and ridiculously messy ponytails at the crown of your head with a full chorus of escapees, not that I’m describing myself or anything.
And it doesn’t matter how it looks, who is there and who is not. You can do nice things for you.
You should do nice things for you.
Have a wonderful Tuesday, a beautiful Christmas Eve if you celebrate it, a beautiful quiet day if you don’t and you get to rest, a wonderful shift if you’re working. And the same for Christmas, I may take the day off from a post, so I’ll either see you tomorrow or Friday. So also Happy Hanukkah!
Do something wonderful for yourself. That’s an order.
