It’s a sunny, chilly Friday here in January, something very typical. That sun, sitting up there, laughing at us, giving no warmth. Pretty though.
Like so many things that don’t always help.
Though things that DO help, thank you so much, Foxtrax1 (your superhero name) for the coffee, and a very, very very happy New Year to you and your spouse! (Look at me protecting the civilian identity over here, which is hilarious because I suspect most of the other people reading this also know who you are, but I like the mystery).
I really appreciate it, what a lovely way to start the year!
And now on to Friday.
I’ve been drawn into the Kdrama A Shop for Killers even though it’s not my normal fare, it’s very violent and very actiony. But it also has things that will have me making exceptions: women kicking rear end; dynamic, immediately fully-fleshed characters; compelling plotting; and a great cast, including Lee Dong-wook, who is a favorite.
If you’re not familiar with his work, check out Tail of the Nine Tailed, there are even two seasons.
But as we enter this new, unknown era, it seems as good a time as any for trying things we may not try. Not harmful things, of course; it’s never a good time for those. And some of the new things may not work out.
That’s OK too.
For example, I tried The Light Shop, and the excellent cast, characters, story and effects made it too much for me. It was too good at its horror genre for me to continue watching, but I was curious enough to read about what happened.
Still, some of the visuals are lodged in my head, creepy as they are.
I’m not sorry I tried it, though. If I could have handled the creepiness, it would have been up my alley. So to speak.
(The shop is in an alley.)
If we try to cling to things are they are and as they soon were, they will crumble in our hands. We need to gain some flexibility, mental, physical, because the shifting ground beneath our feet will be deliberate.
Try something different, big or small, and see where it takes you. Into a wonderful Friday and great weekend, I hope.
