Who cares about the sun and the mild weather, as over the weekend, donald posted an AI-generated image of Chicago in flames with helicopters flying over, told us we’d learn why it’s called the “Department of War,” and promised a “Chipocalypse.”
He also referred to the movie Apocalypse Now, so that seems to imply he’s not only threatening a US city with war, but with napalm, given the quote he borrowed.
As many of our Illinois politicians have pointed out, this is not normal. That media has made clear that it’s Democrats calling it not normal, as though it’s a partisan talking point, is also not normal.
This is so beyond not normal as to require immediate bipartisan action. Contact your reps, especially if they are republicans.
Donald has said that he can use the National Guard however he wants, though that seems to have been buried in google results, if anyone can furnish a link, I’d appreciate it. The memory hole begins.
He also, apparently said “we” are not going to war with Chicago, as though Chicago is not part of “we.” We are an American city.
I don’t care how much he walks it back or how much media tries to sanitize it, what he said was so far outside of a constitutional democracy (or even a “constitutional republic” as republicans love to bleat) that it cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged.
Every single member of Congress should be calling for his resignation. There should be articles of impeachment TODAY. He should be impeached and removed without delay.
His cabinet should already be meeting to remove him via the 25th Amendment. It was not a joke. It was not harmless or a meme.
It was an open threat. A clear threat. A threat with visual aids.
And as I’ve said repeatedly, Chicago isn’t even near the top 20 cities in the country for crime. Illinois is the 19th safest state in the country, which means there are 31 states more dangerous.
So while republicans enjoy inflicting the harm on us, they should actually be thinking ahead. Are their cities and states next? With perhaps the color of a legal argument?
We are only in the first year of this rapidly roiling disaster. The first year. And if donald does anything, he makes threats, walks them back, makes threats, semi-walks them back, and then he makes threats and follows through.
That he posted that image at all indicates that destroying a US city with the military is something he wants to do.
We have had so many instances of seeing that “take him seriously not literally” is garbage and enabling. We should be taking him literally. You cannot threaten war against a city in your own country and then “walk it back.”
This is the last siren before there is nothing left to recognize here. The bridge is out, and we are inches away from total collapse.
Even for republicans, this is not normal. They have to realize it. And if they’ve paid any attention to how things work with people like donald around the world, they have to realize they will soon face his ire.
Especially if they seem like they could challenge him for power.
Do not let this go. Do not let it disappear into the news cycle. If not this month, six months from now or a year from now.
