It’s gray again today. We had a little sun over the weekend, but I really think of Chicago in November as gray. Gray gray gray.
Some months are like that.
This weekend both my dad and I needed a break from the doors and the hinges who each had their own unique issues, which is pretty interesting from a store that sells things that are modular, though perhaps we had our own unique issues installing them.
But we have 2 more doors up, and I adjusted the hinges within a millimeter of their lives. They’re not yet perfect but good.
Now we have the pantry. And because the system we have is so old, they don’t have doors long enough to cover the whole thing so we have to have four doors. So much to go wrong.
So, so, so, so, so much.
But at least they’re basically at ground level, aside from the top ones, so there’s that. My dad is now scaling back his opinion we should do all the upper cabinets, though it was his idea, he thinks there will be enough wood once we’re done with this part. We’re essentially replacing glass and aluminum highlight doors with the wood, so he may be right.
If you’re wondering why, the upper cabinets with those doors had garage hinges, and one of the frames failed at the hinge. The metal just tore.
And that seemed kind of unsafe to me.
So we took them all down, tried the open shelves, hated the open shelves, I do not understand how people make that work, and here we are.
It does underscore a facet of my personality I’d like to say is endearing but I suspect is not, in which I do not like being bad at things for longer than I think I should be. I feel like I should have improved at this by now.
Oh well. Learning curves may vary.
Anyway, that is it for me for today as we venture once more unto the beech, well, ash veneer in this case.
Have a great Monday.
