It’s another cloudy day, and I think it’s going to rain, though I don’t know what the weather has to say on the matter. Voters in Ohio overwhelming rejected republican shenanigans yesterday, and for that we all breathe a sigh of relief.
But our government cannot continue this way, we need to get the people using public service for personal gain out of it. Which is difficult, thanks to a ruling that made personal profit out of public service very lucrative, rendered by many of the same people on SCOTUS currently under scrutiny for making personal profit out of public service.
Ahem.
It’s strange how we tend to use polite language to describe things, to paper over the pointy edges. But there are many things that don’t deserve politeness. And many people.
You can see Chief Justice Roberts getting indignant over people describing the appalling lack of ethics by the conservatives under him. He has nothing to say about what appears to be money in exchange for official acts, or “bribes,” as the kids say.
But he has plenty to say about people talking about it with what he seems to think is a lack of reverance.
Ahem.
It’s been a long time since we were treated with any politeness by conservatives, if ever we were, so the question is why participate in their pantomime? Why try to be “balanced” when the harm is decidedly one-sided?
Let’s commit to truth telling, even when it’s uncomfortable. Because over the long run, the encroachment on our rights we pretend not to see is far more uncomfortable.
Let’s see the problems for what they are. And who they are.
Have a great Wednesday.
