It’s Monday, and the weather isn’t very sure of itself. Right now I have bright sunshine, but dark clouds lurk at the horizon.

It could go either way.

Last week I wasn’t sure if I would watch the Chicago Marathon; I did and I’m glad I did, it’s an event that embodies the spirit of Chicago, both from the runners and the people who come to cheer them on. The picture above is newly-minted world record holder in the process of minting, three-time Chicago Marathon winner Ruth Chepngetich running with two men in the same uniform she wears, who I think are her pacers, and another runner.

And the three teammate’s feet don’t even touch the ground. I thought it was remarkable, their complete sync, even when not on the earth.

I wonder if there are days they don’t want to run. It’s hard to imagine, because you’d think if you were that amazing at something, so superhuman gravity does not contain you, you would want to do it all the time.

Who knows.

I, on the other hand, firmly tethered to the floor beneath me, am suffering from a case of the drags. Dragging myself to make my coffee; dragging myself to get started even here; dragging myself to do the stuff that has to get done today, looming off in the near distance.

Roughly, that does sound much like a Monday, I suppose.

And in true Monday fashion I can add another white dude blocking me notch to my belt. Overall, they are not my biggest fans, apparently. This one was inevitable, you can ignore an annoying person only so long until you stand firm because they’ve crossed a line.

Maybe it’s that rigidness that does the exact opposite of what whatever winning friends and influencing people is.

I suppose I’ll never know, but on the plus side, as I said, he was generally annoying so I will call it a win.

We all set off on our marathons of our weeks, sometimes in the elite group, sprinting with something beyond a spring in our step; sometimes in the slower starts; sometimes with the people who may simply walk and might not finish.

It’s all moving forward, though. Even if you’re winding your way through the neighborhoods of your week as the runners do this beautiful city, it’s bringing you closer to that final hill you and you alone want to conquer.

Maybe not in under 2 hours and 10 minutes (!) but we can’t all be Ruth.

Have a great Monday and a terrific start to your week.
