It’s another cold day, though not as cold, it’s all the way up to 25 degrees now. I’m way behind with this post today, I’ve been slow to sit down to the keyboard.
Once again, I find myself in the midst of a conversation about whether men know men are dangerous to women, and honestly, it’s enough to make you rip hair out, but not my own. That pretense that people who do things and benefit from them are oblivious, as opposed to aggressively protecting their ability to do it.
Come on.
That anyone ever believed that or accepted it is difficult to take, frankly. I think it helps now when it’s not one woman talking to one man or a handful, but a whole force of us, the rest unseen, but standing firmly, with people, including men, who are actually prepared to break it down.
It’s also an aspect of Spoutible itself, because on another platform there would be the male army trying to make it as uncomfortable as possible for me to say what I have to say, shouting me down, trolling me.
Shutting me up.
Well, we both know that would be attempting to shut me up but the possibility of that experience again has absolutely kept me off other platforms.
The dynamic has changed considerably, and not the least of that is the safety of not being in the same room with someone who could potentially become violent, as that is one of the tactics used to prevent us talking about how men know they are a threat to women.
Someone shared with me (thank you someone!) this clip from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a show I haven’t watched, but honestly, nothing can sum it up better:
And there it is: “the implication.” So much of it is “the implication.”
Anyway, that’s enough of that for the week, I hope you have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.
