It’s gray and really cold, and when I say “really cold,” I mean 7 degrees. F. Not C. That’s right around -14 C.
So cold.
I don’t know if we’re supposed to get snow, as there is nothing else it could be but snow at this temperature, but it doesn’t look inviting outside on any level. That’s the kind of cold that is bitter and biting.
Speaking of.
Yesterday the House passed a bill funding the military, and that bill contained a ban on the funding of gender care for the children of active military. And something like 80 Democrats voted for it.
I’m sure they had Very Good Reasons (sarcastic TM pending), complicated calculations about funding the military over being blamed for not funding the military, but I’ve got to tell you, it gave me pause.
This is how it starts, you know. The compromises on the rights and full human status of one group, a small one.
Putting aside the attack on women, for a moment. But people rarely see that for what it is.
A group people don’t stand up for. And then it grows and grows and grows.
We put Democrats in Congress to do the standing up.
And I am the first to say hold republicans responsible for their own actions, but to vote for this is a decision these Democrats made. A sacrifice for which none of them will bear the cost.
Don’t take this as an aberration.
Take this as a warning. We are good and truly on our own, because we all know this is the beginning and not the end of it.
I am disappointed, at the base of it all, but I guess we really saw it when they pushed Pres. Biden out of the race, jockeying for their own glory which will never come for most of them. That’s when they put it all on the line, but it wasn’t their all.
It was ours.
No, I’m not in the military, no, the rights of trans people, no matter their age, do not directly affect my life, but when did we become a people where that’s all that matters? When did that become “moral?”
Everyone out for themselves, sharpened claws ready to get bloody.
Some people just hide it better than others, I guess.
