It’s sunny, and after a bout of snow yesterday, still pretty chilly but the temperature shouldn’t be too terrible today. We’ll see.

I definitely need more coffee, so I’m going to take care of that and then come back. I’ll just be a moment.

And I’m back. Truth be told that took more than a moment, but eh, who’s counting. From your end, it was like magic.

The power of illusion.

That’s something we’re all going to have to reckon with, eventually.

We’ve told ourselves some pretty stories about who we are and where we are, and they’re not wearing thin, they’re coming apart at the seams. Threadbare and see-through.

Hmm. That’s a lot. Especially for a Monday.

It’s time we start dealing in truths. The big ones and the little ones and all the ones shooting off in all directions inbetween.

All best choices are gone. All better choices are gone. All good choices are gone. All OK choices are gone.

All that remains are differing levels of bad choices and it’s tough to tell head on which bad choice will lead to an even worse outcome.

Forget perfection. The goal now is survivable.

And like so many things I’ve said over the years, this one, again, is not hyperbole.

But no one likes to listen to what women say, there’s a certain snide satisfaction in disregarding us and disregarding us and disregarding us.

And when those women are Black?

That snide satisfaction slides into vindictive anger, rageful contradiction.

Look where that got us.

So in their demanding perfection, we ended up with their “or bust.” There are only a handful of people this situation is good for and I can promise you you are not among them.

The majority of the republicans in Congress who are certain they are among them will find out the very hard way they are not. Maybe the hardest way.

They really should have paid attention to who goes first when power is consolidated but that is their own lesson to learn. They are too weak, too pathetic to take hold of the power they have while they have it, and that will be to their worst detriment.

For the rest of us, we need to keep our eyes on what we do have the power to control, and see it for what it is and not what we want it to be. We’re waking up from the Matrix, not because we took any pill but because the system is failing.

I don’t mean to demoralize. In fact I hope these words find in you a new, grounded resolve. We need to know where we are before we can get where we want to go.

Have a great Monday.
