It’s a sunny day and yet the sky is filled with flat gray clouds, and I can’t figure it out. Who am I to unravel the mysteries of nature, anyway.

Might as well go get some more coffee.

Speaking of (coffees and mysteries), thank you to the sneakiest of sneakertons, for the very, very sorely needed coffees. I shall throw no more clues to the rest of the class, but thank you, both for the reading and the coffee. And should that last bit come to fruition, well, that would be lovely.

Look at me passing notes.

And now Thursday.

Also, coffee acquired. Worked out well yesterday.

Today I have some flat-pack furniture to assemble. In this case, it’s very glamorous: a laundry cart.

It’s got a top and the ability to sort so I know some of you are definitely there with me on this concept. I don’t anticipate it being too difficult, but the thing about assemble yourself, you never know.

The last one was an entertainment center, for my dad, and we set about it together, in a rhythm established over many decades and many flatpacks. We still remember and talk about assembling a desk of mine, the worst we’d ever done, but still it stands.

The entertainment center was challenging but well-planned with good hardware. When you think about it, they’re like giant puzzles or life-sized models.

Puzzles for me, models for my dad.

We got it finished, piece by piece, bolt by bolt.

And so it will go with the laundry cart.

Some things come disassembled.

And some things fall apart on their own.

Here we are, looking at a maze of detached pieces and I don’t need to tell you, the instructions are of no help. If you can find them at all.

Which, so far, we have not.

Metaphorically, I mean, in case I’ve gone too far afield, because so far everything has included instructions. But everything was made with a plan.

Come to think of it, so was this mess.

All I can say, my friends, is we need to pick up our screwdrivers, find the right bits, because I forgot to mention our screwdrivers are electric and if they aren’t then the right head or grit our teeth and grasp that Allen key, and get to work.

We’ll start with putting the fasteners in place, because it comes together very quickly after that.

Keep that in mind.

We may not each have all the right tools, but someone will. We can get this thing together. It may not look like much for a very long time, but eventually it will.

Piece by piece, bolt by bolt.

Have a great Thursday.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
