Still chilly, and a sky covered in rolling gray clouds. It’s almost June but it’s also Chicago, so that’s just how it is here sometimes.
Before we get started a HUGE thank you to Judith for the coffees and an apology for being remiss, as apparently I never got the notification! Writing Stumpy has been my pleasure, and it makes me so happy to see other people have enjoyed her silly adventures as well. Thank you so much for the coffee, and I’m so sorry my thanks are so late!
And now Tuesday.
As we stumble into Tuesday after the long weekend, I was, once again, waiting, which you likely know by now is one of my least favorite things we do in this thing we call life. And I had settled in for the long wait.
But.
It turned out the wait was much shorter than I anticipated.
You never know.
Sometimes things go the way you think they will, and sometimes they very much do not. I’m the kind of person who would like to know ahead of time, but I know there are plenty of people who enjoy the mystery, the unexpected.
Positive surprises I’m OK with. Negative ones, not so much.
What a unique flower I am.
As I wrote that, it seemed obvious that no one is a fan of negative surprises.
Maybe my coffee isn’t that efficient today, I’m not sure you’re getting my A game.
So I guess, more than embracing the unknown when the unknown turns out to be bad, maybe all we can do is try to keep our feet under us, however that looks, when the unknown turns out to be bad.
And maybe we all need to hear that that, alone, is enough.
Even if you lose your balance.
These days are not the days we dreamt of as children, with skies full of flying cars and homes packed with useful robots. Though we do have more robots than we may notice, especially if you count the vacuums.
I’m not sorry about the flying cars, by the way. People can’t even drive in two dimensions, who would want to give them three?
Anyway, I know this isn’t my vision of the future, not my hope for it anyway. And maybe that’s also true for you.
A negative surprise.
But still, we can hold our ground on the undulating earth, brushing off the dirt when we can’t.
The best we can do is all we can ask of ourselves right now, or any time really.
Whatever the surprise.
Have a great Tuesday.
