Still sunny, still hot, but we should be getting rain by this afternoon. Then the rain might become thunderstorms tonight.
Fine by me.
I’ve been thinking lately how much I dislike the world as it is these days, like something beautiful and delicious left to spoil and fester. It is no longer a good thing to be a kind person, to be an honest person.
People just see a mark.
Maybe they see a woman and think easy target.
I can’t say for sure, it’s the only experience I have.
Along the way into this nightmare landscape, virtues became vices and vices virtues. They even invented a term for it, “virtue signaling” as if all of morality is merely a paid performance.
I do something for you, you do something for me. Quid pro quo.
So it’s a good thing to be a snake now, I suppose. A moral thing. Greed is the most virtuous characteristic you can have currently, it appears, the more unquenchable, the better.
The less restricted, the better.
We could try to play along but honestly, I know I’m not wired that way. Maybe life would be easier if I were, but I’m just not.
If you’re reading this, odds are you aren’t either.
My visions for the world hurtling into the future are much brighter, much kinder, much more fair than this darkness of sludge that we’re lurching through. But those visions, it seems, are mere daydreams.
By the hour, it seems to get worse, as more and more people abandon their facade of decency as though shedding an ill-fitting bra at the end of the day, leaving the restrictive marks to undo themselves.
Like they’ve been waiting for this their whole lives.
Perhaps the greatest irony is all of it is bundled in with religion, religion that touts the opposite of the behavior, so how they get away with it, it’s puzzling to watch.
And yet here we are, and there they are, and this is one of those days where I don’t have answers or suggestions or ideas or encouragement.
I, myself, today in this space, am discouraged.
Some Thursdays, that’s simply how it’s going to go. There are days you cannot escape your disappointment in humanity.
Anyway, that’s it for me today, I hope you have a great Thursday and manage to do, see, or experience something that makes you more optimistic than this post.
