The sky seems to be in agreement with the rest of Chicago, with dark clouds covering patches of blue. It’s chilly today.

Good.

I have spent my entire life hearing republicans go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about “states’ rights,” railing against federal interference. Isn’t that why they claimed they needed all those guns?

And here we are, republicans clawing themselves into power in all three branches and what what do they do?

Send military into states who are saying, clearly, we don’t want them.

And then perhaps the most “states’ rightsy” of all states is the one sending its National Guard into a state that has told it not to.

The one thing I can say is republicans are pretty consistent about consent. In that they don’t believe in it. On any level.

Clearly.

Due process? Who needs it. Free speech? Who wants it. Freedom of and from religion?

How dare you.

For all the people who keep insisting that this isn’t republicanism, I have some bad news for you. This is precisely what it is, when it is unchecked by outside forces. When Democrats do not have any power to tamp it down to any degree.

None of these policies are new. Republicans have been saying for years they want to end Social Security and Medicare and then acting offended when it’s discussed. They have wanted to put religion into a country without religion, to punish for speech. There is case law to back it all up.

But without credit and only blame for not being more effective at stopping them, the Democrats tempered it all. Now that they have no power to do anything, people still want to blame them instead of the republicans doing the harm.

I sit here dumbfounded while news just repeats donald claiming “emergencies” to justify his actions when he said he wanted to “send the feds” into Chicago in 2017 when he wriggled his way into power first time.

Don’t ever buy the lie that republicans love the Constitution. Nor the lie that they are fiscally responsible because these needless military incursions and rounding up of immigrants, including DOCUMENTED immigrants–if you have a visa or green card, you are DOCUMENTED–are costing tax payers a fortune, and we don’t even know the full costs.

Don’t ever buy the lie that republicans believe in state’s rights because they are foaming at the mouth to violate the rights of Illinois and all our residents.

Don’t ever buy the lie that republicans support the military because look at what they are doing to our National Guard, how they are debasing them, their missions, their sworn oath, their patriotism.

There are few things more unamerican than fascism.

The veneer is gone, the pretext is gone and the ability to blame Democrats is gone because Democrats cannot take action. They don’t have the power to do it.

So here we are, and here I am, fuming, worrying about all the people whose lives are about to get upended because republicans are horrible, horrible people who enjoy inflicting harm on others and lying about their values.

And I thought I wouldn’t have much to say.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Know your rights, have a camera at the ready, and have as good a day and weekend as possible.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
