Here we are, the last day of our #OneNiceThing Challenge! All week, we’ve been doing something nice for ourselves each day.
Or more than one thing, if you want.
As someone said yesterday, it does feel like it could become habit-forming and that’s a good habit to have.
Today is a day I’d like to crawl under the covers and stay there, I woke up around 4 and couldn’t go back to sleep, so when I finally did, I was groggy when I got up. I’m still groggy, one cup of coffee in already.
Yesterday I found myself doing a few nice things for myself, as the week has worn on, it’s feeling more and more natural. I allowed myself to feel how I felt yesterday, which included a lot of fear of what’s going on, this threat we’re constantly under.
I tried making a healthy dessert involving vanilla yogurt and bananas and while it did not turn out well–it was rubbery yogurt with grainy, very pronounced banana and no other flavor–in this case I’d say the thought still counts.
So that’s another lesson learned. Doing something nice for yourself doesn’t always mean it will work out. But that you made the effort is key. That you are worth trying it out even if it doesn’t succeed. Success is not the measure.
How about that.
I also realized that something I may not enjoy at the time, like folding and putting away laundry, can also be a nice thing to do for yourself. The chores aren’t merely tedium, but ways in which we take care of ourselves. We don’t have to love doing it to enjoy the results.
So all in all, I’d say it’s been a very instructive week for me.
I hope it has for you as well, and I hope you’ve taken care of yourself in a way that you truly deserve. And just because the challenge is winding down, it doesn’t mean you have to stop.
#OneNiceThing can continue.
Why not?
And with that I wish you a lovely Friday, a terrific weekend, and I hope your nice thing brings a smile to your face.
